improving sound quality for voice chat

hi again…anyone recommend a few basic ways one can try to improve the general sound quality during voice chats…i am using Sound Blaster 16 as my sound card and running XP…i find there is a lot of static and background noised when I try to use it which makes it unpleasant to use…a great feature if sound was better…any help is appreciated…thanks

It could be your mic. Check it, maybe replace it, and if you can take it apart, clean it, then see how it works.

Pardon the dust... but we are shaking things up at BigBlueBall. The site has been through a couple of evolutions, and this marks the latest and best yet!
