A simple website displaying first-person accounts of Hurricane Sandy’s impact from Instagram has become one of the best journalistic tools on the Internet. “Instacane” follows hashtags from Instagram users experiencing the wrath of the superstorm. Footage of the destruction is both horrifying and jaw-dropping at the same time. And, as with any ad hoc Internet property, there’s a bit of sillyness mixed in (at the bottom of the post).
