MemberWhy am I getting a pop up notice telling me that in order to access this site I must install and run “FREE on-line games and special offers from Netpal & Partners” from http://www.netpaloffers.net?

KeymasterBecause you’re not logged in. Netpal is an advertiser I’m testing. If you are logged in, you will not get this prompt. If you are not logged in, you will.

MemberOk Jeff…there are enough ads. I absolutely hate those install advertisers. If you NEED to give us an ad, please just a banner. Those installers are just ANNOYING!!! And…it is as if we aren’t bombarded enough 🙁

ParticipantI have to agree with Shiz, even a pop-up is better than this.

ParticipantI knew it wasn’t my school’s computer…
Jeff, I know the reasoning behind the adverts, and we all understand and accept that. But there is no reason to insult new people with this advertisement.
One reasoning, it’s annoying, second it insists you must accept it to view the site. Not a way to attract people IMO. But if you’re only experimenting, I’d suggest removing it, or replacing it.This is just too much

KeymasterI want to thank all of you, not only for taking time to share your feedback, but for your patience as well.
As some of you know, sites like BigBlueBall don’t run on good intentions alone. It takes a lot of time, effort and yes, even money to keep it running well. That’s where the ads come in; they help pay the bills.
I hate intrusive ads as much as anyone, and I really hate programs that forces themselves on the user. But I wanted to test the water and see how it would work. I implemented it in such a way that registered members who were logged in would not get the Netpal prompt. Clearly, this wasn’t enough.
I’m done with Netpal and programs like it, and apologize for exposing you to this test.

MemberYes those are very annoying. Never got one on here. I don’t go to http://www.aimfilez.com and http://www.aimisland.com because they have them now. Not sure if they are still using them because I got tired of them in about a minute and haven’t been back since then.
