I’ve seen Windows XP run on a system with 64MB of RAM and once it’s all up and running, it’s not overly slow.

You’re right, Spike. A few months ago I installed XP for a client on her aging Pentium 2 computer with 64MB RAM (she didn’t want to upgrade the hardware) and it’s running fine…

Ok so if I was going to run xp on my pc, what would I need to do? I mean would I need to erase my hard drive and win98? I have a friend that has done this to his pc but I want to make sure it’s done right. Ive tried this once before but I didn’t delete anything and just tried installing it and I guess I didn’t have enough memory :confused:

You will need to get a copy of Windows XP. Put in the disk, and boot to it, then in the installation, I believe you can choose “Upgrade” which will let you keep all your old files. Upgrade is not foolproof, and especially from Win98 to XP, I suggest you back up your needed files on some CD’s before starting any of this.

I would prefer to do a Clean install because it gets rid of all the crud in your hard disk from the previous OS (in your case, Win 98). Before you do this, remember to backup all your important files and folders.

I know that you might not be able to do this, but get some more RAM if you can afford it. Even an additional 256MB (512MB is better) will make your computing much smoother and faster. If not, your existing 191MB should suffice for XP.
