I was instant messaging with someone yesterday and as i was typing my text to send, some random text was put in where i was typing, it was so weird, i sat there and looked at it thinking i didnt type that…..lol. Does anyone have any possible explanation for this?
What was the actual text?
If it’s anything to do with emoticons, it wouldn’t suprise me if it was SmileyCentral…
no i was just typing words and randomly something was put in the box where i was typing….specifically it said “i hate you maybe” lol i know it sounds weird but i was floored i couldnt and still dont understand it
This is a long shot, but had you typed those words earlier in the conversation? The reason i ask is because if you hit the “up” arrow while typing, it scrolls up to things previously typed and if you hit enter they get typed again. Other than that it’s weird that would happen, unless you somehow were extremely sleepy and forgot you were typing and subconsciously admitted hidden feelings. :p But on a serious note, if you can’t figure out how that appeared, it was probably a basic yahoo glitch, but i would recommend scanning your computer for any malware that might cause your computer to act strangely, but i see no reason to get alarmed. Hope this helps a bit.
I wouldn’t say it’s a Yahoo! glitch…it’s not really possible for such software to have bugs in like that, unless Yahoo really goofed it up.
But yeah I’d go with the possibility of malware/spyware/adware. Scan your computer with Spybot, AdAware, and any decent virus scanner. Suggest this one if you haven’t got one installed.
I hesitate to spread false alarm etc, as some people blame EVERY quirk on “viruses” or “hackers” – but I think if someone else had sneakily gained access to the PC then they could be watching everything being typed, and presumably add something of their own (which would seem stupid, as it would give the game away!?).
I’ve no direct knowledge of hacking tricks – can anyone say if this IS possible, and/or likely ?
i hate to sound so uneducated in yahoo terminology but what is a yahoo bot,,yahoo pal or hyperYm? to answer hatedjealousy, no i didnt type anything like that earlier in my IM , the whole thing is just plain weird
They are sort of small program that randomly generates messages or, after learning from you, generates messages according to your IM behavior.

It is possible, and depending on how well a computer is maintained and how secure a computer system is, the degree of likelihood varies. As for the jumping to conclusions bit…it’s just a bit of general troubleshooting, just to completely rule out the possibility of any parasites which could be lurking on a system.
The idea is to narrow down the possibilities.

due to my eagerness to reply to threads I missed while I am away on my 4-day vacation.
