On October 8th, we had 24 new members sign up. I’m pretty sure that’s a new record (albiet a modest one). Of those 24, five had not activated their account by the end of the day. Account activation is a new constraint I’ve implemented with the new forums to ensure that the member at least provides a valid email (a modest level of accountability).
Why did five people not activate their account? Maybe…
- They’re too lazy to click the link.
- They haven’t checked their email yet.
- They didn’t open the email.
- They didn’t read the email carefully.
- They changed their minds and decided they really didn’t want to be a member after all.
- Or most likely, they didn’t provide a valid email address!
Remember, to sign-up at BigBlueBall and begin posting in the forums, you must provide a valid email when you register. If you don’t have a private email address you can get one for free from Hotmail, Yahoo, or any of a number of free email providers. Or if you’re so inclined, you can even purchase [email protected] for $25 bucks a year (oddly, heaven.com returns a “server not found” error. I guess we know how You-Know-Who feels about the Internet, eh?).
Anyhow, look around, and if you like what you see and want to join in the discussion, be sure to register with a valid email account.
October 27, 2002 at 8:04 pm #100236Jeff HesterKeymasterAn update:
I’ve been seeing a lot of people attempting to register with @bigblueball.com. Please keep in mind that we do not provide you with an email account here at BigBlueBall. When you sign-up, you must enter an existing, valid email account, not something you wish you had or otherwise made up.
Why? Well, your account will not be activated until you click on the link that you’ll get at the email address you provide. Provide a bad email address and you won’t get the link… and your account won’t be activated. Simple, eh?
