This is kind of fun. It’s a service called Flickaday.com where you take a webcam snapshot of yourself once per day and it’s stored on their site in a calendar. There’s no cost for the service, and no software to install. It accesses your camera using Flash. You will be prompted to give Flash permission to use your webcam each time, so there are no worries that pictures will be taken when you don’t want.
When you take your picture, you can also post a status message. This all gets date and time stamped with the weather at your location, and posted to the website.
You have the option of also linking your Twitter or Flickr accounts. For Twitter, it can automatically send a tweet whenever you post the day’s “flick”. With Flickr, it will upload a copy to your Flickr account.
Where it gets a little more fun is once you’ve built up a history of photos. Flickaday provides a number of widgets and options for sharing those images on your blog or website (or even on Facebook). You can create an interactive Flash “gallery” of your daily shots or an animated GIF.
There is some form of community interaction on Flickaday, but I don’t see the point, personally. I see it more as a service that you can use and you would share your photos elsewhere, but maybe that’s just me.
Anyhow, here’s MY flick from today:
And here’s my Flickaday profile.
