MemberYahoo! allows me to send 146 characters per message from my PC to mobile Phones in the Philippines. Sometimes it allows 147, and if I proceed, it then tells me the phone number I am sending to is not with Yahoo’s Messaging Partners, even though it is the same phone number that yahoo contacts when the allowed number of characters is 146. Can I do something about this myself, or do I have to suffer it till the allowed number changes to 146 ?

ParticipantWell i was reading this, from the Yahoo! Help!:
Quote:Why did my message become 2 messages? If you see that the message tally on the right shows “message to be sent” as more than 1, it means you have gone over the 160 character per message limit. Punctuation marks and spaces count as characters and are calculated towards the total characters per message. The characters used for the sender’s information [from: your name] count towards the character total of the message as well. But when i asked my friend whats the limit when he texts me he said 147. When he goes over that 147, i get the message, but it gets cut off (not two messages), so i don’t get the whole thing. So even if you could get that message over 147 sent, i wouldn’t recommend it, as the person you are sending it to would get a cut message. Unfortunately you must suffer with the limited amount you are allowed. Sorry.

MemberThanks Hatedjealousy
You appear to have missed the point of my question – I have NO wish to send more than 146 characters at a time. Yahoo tells me at the outset how many I am allowed to send – it is usually 146, and then things proceed successfully. But when yahoo says that I can send 147, and I go ahead and try to send even just 1, it will tell me that the number I am sending to is not with one of Yahoo’s Messaging Partners – even though I can successfully send to that same phone number when Yahoo says that 146 are allowed.May 22, 2006 at 12:45 pm #144953Nessa
ParticipantAh, sorry about that. Do you know what company the person’s cell phone is with? If it’s not one of the major companies (Cingular, T-Mobile, Sprint, Etc.), that might be the answer.

MemberI do know the carrier for that mobile phone – it is NOT one of the ones you mention. However, that seems irrelevant as I can contact the # successfully EXCEPT when Yahoo tells me I am allowed 147 characters – and then all other contacts are equally blocked. This does NOT happen to another PC that is also in frequent contact with that mobile phone.

Quote:…it then tells me the phone number I am sending to is not with Yahoo’s Messaging Partners…So i thought that might be the cause especially if it’s not one of the main cell phone companies, it may not completely be supported by Yahoo!
Josephilippa wrote:…This does NOT happen to another PC that is also in frequent contact with that mobile phone. Are you 100% sure this other person goes above the limit provided?
If some of the stuff i asks seems irrelevant, it’s just that i’m trying to look at this through all possible angles to help you find a solution. I’ve never heard about a cell phone having a problem receiving messages this way, but most people i know have cell phones with major cell phone companies. Also it would probably help to know which way that person is logged on to cell phone. (either logged out through yahoo messenger into Mobile Device or they logged in through their phone’s IM Service), as i’ve noticed each works differently.

MemberWell it maybe a glitch in your messenger, as you said its NOT happening in the other PC… As I dont use Y!M to send SMS, the only thing I can suggest to is to have your Y!M updated, or reinstalled. But, its no guarantee it will solve your problem.
Why not just use the chikka instead?

MemberI DO appreciate your perseverence in trying to help Hatedjealousy, but I HAVE to state and restate the facts that are relevant. You are again focussing on the size of the message that the other PC might be sending. The issue is NOT how much we try to send, but how much is allowed at the outset. If it is 146, then a message of appropriate size gets through. If it is 147, then no matter how small the message, I am told that an otherwise accessible number ‘is not with our messaging partners’. The symptom of my problem STARTS with the announcement that I can send 147 characters.

Member“Why not just use the chikka instead?” What does that mean ?
I have reasons that involve other people, for wanting to get Yahoo operating again as it should and can – and has. Incidentally, the number of characters that Yahoo allows to be sent from a PC depends on the PC – two others doing the same thing are allowed 149 and 150 – (with success). I also seem unable to focus the attention of Yahoo on this symptom of my problem.I have two other different hurdles in Yahoo to overcome, for whch I would also like solutions. I’ll tell you if you ask me.

ParticipantClick here to learn more about Chikka, it’s a text messaging program (lets you text for free from your pc).
And yes it would be good if you include what other problems you are currently encountering.

MemberDear perseverent hatedjealousy
My other two problems with Yahoo are the following :
From time to time the splashscreen has an icon for webcam which normally soon changes to an icon for mobile. Sometimes the webcam icon does not change to an icon for mobile, so then I do NOT get access at all to even the trouble-plagued service.Up until the middle of February this year, I could send messages from my PC to a mobile in the Philippines; and the Filipino could send messages from his mobile to Yahoo on my PC in Australia. Since middle February, I can not receive the messages sent from his mobile. It seems to be a problem with my phone number, because another PC on this same home phone number, but with a different operating system and different version of Yahoo can also not receive those messages from the Filipino’s mobile. Yet a third PC on a different phone number can both send to and receive from the same Filipino’s mobile.
Actually, there are yet another two issues. My attempts to send picture files to and receive them from another PC in Australia fail – Yahoo says it’s because our Yahoo!Messenger versions are different. The same explanation and failed trial goes for using the microphone on our 2 PCs for speaking to each other. My version is 7 and the other is 6. [Versions of Asian Yahoo!Messenger]

ParticipantJosephilippa wrote:My version is 7 and the other is 6. [Versions of Asian Yahoo!Messenger]That makes a big difference there when trying to send filespictures. Yahoo! does not allow the change of files/pictures between version 6 and 7 (weird but true). Have that person upgrade to 7 or you can downgrade to 6 (or both of you can upgrade to 7.5 (non-beta)), but soon 6 won’t be supported all that much by Yahoo! and you’ll have more problems than before.
Josephilippa wrote:…but with a different operating system…What operating system does they have? And which do you have?
And yes all this may very well be the cause of why you can’t send the same amount as others and why you get that message when you try to pass it.

MemberThe two operating systems on this phone number are WinMe and Win Xp.
The 3rd party who has NO problems uses WinXP.The party with whom I can not exchange files or speak has Win98SE.
“why you can’t send the same amount as others “
With all due respect that is NOT my problem. The problem is that if Yahoo allows me 147 characters, it will in fact send NONE.May 29, 2006 at 6:46 am #144959miGs
MemberChikka, is a txt messenger service which enables a user to send txt message from a PC to a mobile phone in the Philippines, as Hatedjealousy pointed out.
I had difficulty using Y!M when sending SMS to mobile phones before, and Chikka is the better alternative as its system is devoted to SMS alone.
I agree with HJ’s previous comment , that maybe, just maybe, the problem you are having is due to the OS difference. :confused:June 4, 2006 at 11:37 am #144966Josephilippa
MemberHatedJealousy – Are you a ‘Yahoo Messenger Advisor’ at BigBlueBall ?
Because of the mismatch of versions with my friend in Australia, I have uninstalled Yahoo7 as thoroughly as I could (Add/Remove programs; manual deletion after Searching on ‘Yahoo’ AND manual deletion from Registry, after searching on ‘Yahoo’) and I installed Vesrion 6 (US). I do not know if it has solved my inability to exchange pictures and microphone output within Australia, but it does appear to have enabled me to send messages even if 147 characters were allowed, AND I have been able to get responses from the Filipino mobile phone. So I do not know what caused my problems, but reverting to an earlier version appears to have solved them.
Thanks for your interest and hints. -
