I just received a message from somebody when I was in invisible mode. How did they find out that I was invisible and is there any way to prevent this from happening in the future?
i believe someone made a program to show you who is invisible on your buddylist. maybe your friend has that program. also its not entirely impossible to find out who is invisible. not that I do this, but your friend might have typed your SN into the profile box and checked if you’re on.
David has made a program called Who’s Online that shows everyone who is invisible. Anyone can see if you are invisible by trying to check your profile as alana said or by trying to send you a message. There is not a way to stop this from happening except for blocking the people while you are invisible. If you are away from the computer, I would reccomend putting up an away message as well. If you are at your computer you can just ignore the person and pretend you weren’t there and that is why you were invisible.
Rofl you can still message people even if they are invisible. My friend always goes invisible so I make it a habbit of im’ing him.
Well thank you for the replies. Freaked the crap out of me when I got that message. I sat there thinking, “Now how the hell did they find out I’m online?” Thanks again.
It’s been a nice little flaw in AIM since the beta version. Logging in under invisible makes it so that you do not appear on the person’s buddy list, but if they check deep enough, or use Dave’s new program, they know your on. Also, you can send an IM to someone who is invisible by double-clicking his/her name under the offline friends menu. If they are truly offline, you’ll get a message stating that he/she is unavailable…otherwise you’ll make your non-tech savy friend think you have ESP.
Personally, I prefer Yahoo!’s latest IM version, currently in the beta stages. It has a better design than MSN, making the messenger look like XP no matter what Windows OS your using, and even has optional theme and skin downloads. Its webcam and voice options are far beyond anything its competitors are offering. It now links all Yahoo! and SBC Yahoo! (I chose them over AOL, which politely booted me every few minutes and took 176 attempts to reconnect, on average) options, and allows you to open most of them in the IM window. It has taken invisibility to a whole new level, allowing you to customize your invisibility per friend. Its weather service tops AOL’s future Weatherbug link, has an uncomparable internet radio built in, and is more stable than anything America Off Line has created. The avatar feature goes far beyond AOL’s simply buddy icons, and even amazes with 3D graphics beyond MSN’s. Finally, tech support, though unneeded, actually exists! Let me know if anyone can find a way to improve on Yahoo!’s latest creation…the instant messenger of the future.
woah? Who’s Dave and how does Who’s Online work? I mean where could you get a program like that from? it’s a rather neat concept…
