Apple announced iOS 5 today at WWDC, and one of the interesting features was iMessage. iMessage lets you send and receive text and photo messages from any iOS 5 device, including the iPod Touch and iPad, and it works over wifi or 3G.
It appears to replace the SMS app, but what’s not clear is whether this utilizes SMS. What I’d really like to know is whether you can send a text message to a non-iOS 5 device, say, from an iPad? That would be something. In fact, that might just kill the need for instant messaging apps.
