Moderators, and Administrators have these records for security purposes. If this person was a mod, or admin he can trace your IP using something you can find on google, or even built into the discussion board to trace to your ISP.
If you are worried about him hacking you, or if he has mentioned he would, I would suggest updating your Anti-Virus, and downloading a free firewall. You can search Google for either ZoneAlarm, or look in BigBlueBall’s link directory under the firewall section. If you can anyother question, dont hesitate to ask.
Good luck.

Thankyou very much detn8r!
The guy who is bugging me is not a moderator or an admin, he has posted in the forum that he is aware of what security patches i have installed on my pc. He also know my IE version and the IP too.
Is that possible tht he posted some fake link on the forum and I clicked on it and become a prey to him? caz i have heard that if u click on such links it dsiplays your IP address
What do u say about that?January 15, 2004 at 6:44 pm #51109detn8rParticipantAny web site you visit logs your IP address. So what you say can be true. Honestly, I would not take the POS to heart. Report him to the administrator and tell him they are hurrassing you, and threating you, and they should do something about it. Online saftey is, and should be a huge part of online discussion boards.

SusanYou would need access to your webserver logs, or you can (if supported) use Server-Side-Scripting to accomplish this. PHP or ASP would work just fine. (You’d also need a database or access to the servers’ FileSystem).
On the subject of IPs, you do realize that just because you know someones IP does not mean it’s any easier to hack them. An IP address is just a way of Identifying your computer on the massive network we call the Internet. My advice is to buy a Firewall and Anti-Virus software.
