Hey,
I was thinking in getting an ipod. After reading reviews on all kinds of sites I am asking myself questions:– They say it dies after 5.5 hours?
– The battery is not user replacable? How much is it for another battery and how long does this battery last?
– Where can I get a battery for it? Do i have to get one from apple.ca?
– Can I add any song I want that I download online or does it have to be from Itunes? What if I use a P2P?
– Lots of glitches?You can’t replace the battery yourself. I’ve also heard that to have it replaced, it cost almost as much as getting a new one.
My friend has a Mini iPod, and he uses Limewire. You just have to import the songs to iTunes, then transfer it to your iPod.
I’ve got to say, I was also thinking of getting an iPod, however I plumped for the alternative, the Creative Zen Touch 20GB.
They say it’s the next best thing to the iPod, and a heck of a lot cheaper.
The Creative Zen Touch, can I replace the battery myself and how much is the battery? Im looking at it right now. Its also good since I can put any file on it. Can I use it on any computer?
The battery is rechargable, and it’s excellent battery life too. Creative claim 24hrs, however i’ve found its more around 22, but its still more than most. As for using it on any computer, i’m not sure about Mac’s or anything, but it works on all PC’s.
I only use pc’s i dont like how mac’s work. Im looking at creative zen touch, i think u made up my mind! LOL
Lol, I even tried buying off some American sites where it was in dollars so that I could exploit the strength of the British pound, but that’s another story.
The Zen Touch has been fine for me so far…although you might want to buy a different set of earphones, the ones that come with it are ok but could be better.
Thx for the tip, I guess its only available in the U.S. 🙁 It would cost me 352$ CDN about for shipping and everything lol. Do u know if there are other sites that sell them?

A. The battery can be user replaced (some knowledge is needed), but by opening your ipod you do void their warrenty. To have apple replace your battery it would cost you about $99. You could also pay $59 for the Applecare protection plan which covers theese for 2 years from purchase:- iPod battery
- iPod earphones
- iPod dock
- Other accessories in the iPod box
Also your battery would last you up to 500 charges.

A. iPods use a 3.7V 850mAh lithium ion battery, and no you do not have to go to apple.ca to purchase one. You can simply go to http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/ and send in your iPod to have it replaced or you could do it yourself (not recomended).– Can I add any song I want that I download online or does it have to be from Itunes? A. Well yes and no, the iPod supports certain file types. Songs bought off of iTunes are garenteed to work on your iPod. P2P files vary filetypes. The files that the iPod currently supports are:- AAC (16 to 320 Kbps)
- MP3 (32 to 320 Kbps)
- MP3 VBR
- WAV
- AIFF

A. Occasionally you could possibly receive a static charge which could cause your ipod to freeze.The only thing is my parents don’t want to buy online and I don’t think it is available in Canadian stores! (Creative Zen Touch)
Seb, I have a iPod Mini – and I love it. The Zen IS very comparable to the iPod, but seriously…. it’s like wearing Exco to Ecko .. non comparable. 😀
My iPod battery is supposed to last me two years, and I pay 99 bucks to replace it. Thinking about that — it’s going to cost you AT LEAST that in replaceable batteries. The daily battery life is 8 hours. I get 8 hours.
When you upload songs to the iPod, and it’s in a format that the iPod cannot read, iTunes will automatically convert the song for you to a format it can read, so don’t worry about that.
As for glitches, I can’t say I have found any. If you do go for one, I would suggest keeping the belt clip on it, as it can be used a protector for it. I actually dropped my iPod (yikes!) and the belt clip braced the fall.
Also, I would suggest getting an iSkin for it too. It’s a rubber sleeve with a plastic cover for the glass. Well worth the 30-40 bucks.. and it comes in colours too! :p
As for prices, iPods are very over priced in Canada…. and actually, all MP3 players are, thanks to that special tax that makes Canada different from P2P downloading than others.
