If I got an iPod would I have to get iTunes to use it or could I use WMP? I know Apple has a little of a reputation for making products only compatible with their stuff.
July 29, 2006 at 4:25 pm #149269shifterMemberWell, you’ll need a plugin to get your ipod to work together with your winamp, but thats easy enough. So no, you don’t need to tie yourself to iTunes to use it. 🙂
I’m sure if you search the winamp plugins you can get it do do pretty much anything you need.
July 29, 2006 at 7:07 pm #149271TigerbladeParticipantyes, shifter, but what about Windows Media Player (WMP)? I know WMP has the ability to sync up with external devices, but i dont know how well WMP will play with your iPod. I’ve never been willing to try it with mine…
but, according to this article, it’s potentially possible.
July 29, 2006 at 7:52 pm #149276drainMemberI read the article. The XPlay software sounds like it works pretty good, except for the file conversion. I’d have to make all my WMA files into MP3s.

Whoops, gotta lay off them zoomers. 😉drain wrote:I read the article. The XPlay software sounds like it works pretty good, except for the file conversion. There were rumors floating around that WMA support would be added, but those have turned out false as of yet.July 30, 2006 at 11:55 pm #149277drainMemberI might just wait until Microsoft comes out with their MP3 player and see what they have to offer. Hopefully it’s not super expensive.
July 31, 2006 at 12:41 am #149272TigerbladeParticipantAll I can say is… you usually get what you pay for. iPods are a bit on the pricey side still, but they’re worth the money. Microsoft, on the other hand… well, I wouldn’t buy an MP3 player from them.
The day Microsoft makes a product that doesn’t suck is the day that they make a vacuum cleaner.

August 1, 2006 at 6:13 pm #149275DragonSlayerzMemberYou have to use iTunes, if WMP would support the Ipod, iTunes would never exist.
October 3, 2006 at 12:12 pm #149281macmanMemberHere’s a well-done piece of soft – Convert DRM Music: Copy protected WMA music to MP3, iPod and other MP3 players
