Which will you get? That is if you don’t already own one of them. I am leaning towards the Sony PSP after having read this iPod VS PSP. Do you think by some miracle iPod will finally be forced to drop their price? If so, which would you get anyways?

The movie playing and the music playing function is simply an add-on to the PSP it self. Obviously iPod won’t drop their price…why should they? There is no competitions from Sony over the PSP..if you get the PSP, you get it for the gaming not the music. Beside the 32MB memory Card Sony give you won’t let you do much anyways…and plus the Music and movie functions don’t work very well. Take movies for example, it is hell to get your movie from whatever format to .AVI and then transfering it to a different format at a different resolution so the PSP can read it. For music, it doens’t let you organize your libary and it simply just “play” and do nothing else. You can’t make playlists, organize your tracks by time, artist, albums, it just simply “play”. If you’re not much on Gaming, than I suggest you choose something other than the PSP…and for a $300….if you’re not going to be gaming on the bus every single day, you’re really not getting much other than the supposing Sony goodness and braging rights…;)
And oh yeah…did I tell you that each game for the PSP is $50?….
What is ever more sad? Sony had to give everyone the stupid “value pack” which pushed up the price by $75 to say to least and give you completly useless things. The 32MB memory card?…can’t do much with that…carrying case…it’s a SOFT CASE…doesn’t do much protection there, the Earphones are not very good and they are white….LOL…I guess Sony decided that the PSP users need to be “down” with the iPod guys.. and the rest? Pretty much usless too like sample movies and such. The only real useful thing is the AC adaptor however that could be easily replaced.
On the better side however, PSP is great for 3rd party support. I can tell you right now that Memory sticks, Case, and others will be rushing in in a little bit for the PSP, and a Firmwire update should fix the excisting flaws that are already discovered in the PSP, like Music play back, Movie play back and movie formating and resolutions and such, but for the moment, the PSP is for sure not worth the $300…give it 6 month when everything is fixed up and 3rd party support is up, than give the PSP a consideration. But as of now…it is out of the question.
Yes, I am getting a PSP this summer in Japan, and by the time I get it, everything will be a LOT cheaper and the PSP will actually be worth of what IT IS……
Can’t blame Sony…they never get it right the first time…
February 11, 2005 at 10:46 pm #114325Someguy03MemberWell, I guess its not that bad:
IGN.com:
MP3 Playback (Memory Stick) Battery TestSCREEN: OFF
AUDIO: Headphones, full volume
WIFI: OFF
UMD:OFF
MEMORY STICK: ConstantFINAL RESULTS: 10 hours, 39 minutesThats almost as long a battery time as the Ipod. But the main downside is that if you end up buying a 3rd party 300MB memory stick or something in the future, your not only paying for the PSP, but for the memory stick to hold the music also. The Ipod however, already comes with its hard drive space.EDIT: After looking, a 1GB PSP card is 120$. So you end up spending 370$ for the PSP and the card, and you only will have 1GB of space, where as the Ipod Mini has 4 GB’s and is only 250$. And if you want, you can buy the Ipod Original 20GB for $300, still less than the PSP with a 1GB stick. The PSP is good, but it shouldn’t be bought if your only going to use it for MP3’s. Go with a Ipod instead.February 11, 2005 at 11:43 pm #114328kyuubiMemberexactly my point…..the Music and Moive playing function is so secondary….GAME GAME GAME is why the PSP excist. MP3s, iPods are the way to go….
February 11, 2005 at 11:49 pm #114326Hurricane22491MemberYou can’t really compare them, as Kyuubi has sort of said. They weren’t made for the same thing, it just happens that the PSP has MP3 playing capabilities.
If you are only looking for music, just get an iPod. The PSP can do more, but it’s way more expensive, as Someguy said, if you’re only using it for music.
