Young people in Iran are no different than anywhere else — they love to send text messages on their mobile phones. But the AFP reports that ultra-conservative leaders want to crack down on the younger generation when it comes to sending text messages critical of political candidates.
According to the report, “Iran’s ultra-conservative judiciary has now threatened to prosecute people who send text messages with the aim of ‘denigrating’ candidates.”
Although there are only six million mobile phones in Iran, text messaging could still have an influence on the campaign.

Ultra-conservative groups scare me — no matter what country you’re talking about. Next, isn’t the whole point of a vote supposedly to chose one candidate that you like more than others (or the lesser evil)? If that’s true, then doesn’t it stand to reason that you might think or *gasp* send a disparaging text message mocking that candidate that you and your friends love to hate anyway?
Or do I have it all wrong? Maybe I need an ayatollah to tell me what to think and say.
My parents are from Iran and they told me how crazy it is if you talk bad about one of the candidates.
