KeymasterAOL Instant Messenger enjoys the largest market share, but will it last in an increasingly competitive market? Read the latest commentary on AIM and instant messaging interoperability (or the lack thereof), and tell us what you think of the future of IM.

MemberI agree that interoperability advance is a non-event, We wont get it cos AOL dont want any part of it.
Quote:quote: AOL Instant Messenger enjoys the largest market share, but will it last in an increasingly competitive market?‘Competition’? from where? ‘Increasingly competitive’? I cant accept that there is any worthy competition.
Quote:quote:and tell us what you think of the future of IM.Hmmm,… OK look at where we are right now, THIS is the future if anti competitive forces dont stop sitting on their hands and doing their usual star gazing. We need some major butt kicking here if anything at all is to change.
Gimme my 2c.

MemberMany people think aol is going the wrong way, and I couldn’t agree more. But there is hope. Great hope in fact. Many people cite that before a technology becomes “pop,” it must pass through the “geek” culture. In other words, geeks must find it useful, and will eventually round off the sharp corners for the general populace. My point is that many people are beginning to use third party instant messaging clients, that serve not only AIM screen names, but also ICQ, and Yahoo. I cite Trillian, but I know there are many others. These front line technologies will begin to see appearances to us, not on the computer scree for that has already been conquered, but rather cell phones and PDA’s. Then to computers they will migrate. I think this is how the internet will work in the next year or five. But I am only ranting. Tell me what you think
Adios.
All pay notice to Bob Dole’s great grandeur, for I would Hate it if you missed out…
