MemberWell i’m not sure but a lot of media and journalists have been making the comparrison and they dont look like they’re far from the mark. Iraq is looking like a major screw up and it looks like everyone in the world is realising and accepting this except the Americans. Sure, the coalition is in too deep now to pull out but what (in your opinion) is the futre like for Iraq and the “War on Terrorism”?

Participant*groan* The “War on Terrorism” is crap. First of all, I have to sit back and laugh a moment because all of this was a slap in the face for general america, so now there’s this super sensitivity, we have to squash all of this right now because even though it’s been going on for years and we’ve ignored it, now that we got kicked in the teeth it’s an issue crap that’s been going on. And they’re not even focussing on all terrorism.
Terrorism: The act of terrorizing, or state of being terrorized
Terrorism by definition of the FBI: “Unlawful use of force or violence, committed by a group(s) of two or more individuals, against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives”
So basically anything that causes fear in a person or persons can be concidered terrorism. So those animal activists who run in and release animals in the night, or spraypaint furs, are terrorists. Those people off sniping abortion clinic doctors are terrorists. Those Army of God folks are terrorists. No matter if you agree with them or not, they are terrorists, but nobody seems to care about that kind of terrorism. Oh no, we’re just worried about the outside stuff from people of other cultures and places.
Sometimes I honestly think that their idea of safety is closing the US down and off to everyone, but they don’t see the terrorism that corrupts from within…*sigh* So really I think the war on terrorism is going to bite us in the butt. Everyone’s so caught up in it and especially with this Patriot Act bullcrap…dear gods, help us all.And Iraq *sigh* Let’s just admit it, guys…the stuff going on over there is never, ever going to end. It’s just going to get worse and worse until someone tosses a nuke in there and calls it good.

KeymasterOnly time will tell. The least anyone can do is wish our troops the best.

Membermiami guy is right, everyone should just pray for the troops that are over there and wish them well. there is no use complaining about the war…if everyone is so concerned about it, then you should all go out and vote on november 2.

Why is there no use complaining about the war? Should we just accept our government’s decisions or doesn’t it bother you because your not a troop, family member of a troop or an Iraqi?

Umm…that’s what the government does, makes decisions…
I have no control over the situation in Iraq or how our government handles it past the point of voting (which I can’t even do yet). There is no use worrying about something completely out of your control– in this case, Iraq.
The most one can do is vote in November, but the Nov. election isn’t a vote for or against Iraq. It is a vote for a Commander-in-Cheif. Even in that respect, there is yet again no control over the Iraq situation.
There is no reason for pulling out of Iraq right now. However, reasons to stay in are: we have a job to finish, backing out is a win for the terrorists, and there is no reason to leave.
On the real topic, whether or not it is another Vietnam; it isn’t. Vietnam was us going in originally to help France, then it became personal. Vietnam took place in a different part of the world. Vietnam involved different people. Vietnam was conducted differently. We were fighting for different reasons. They are two separate things impossible to compare.
The only similarity I can find is that they are both wars. 😮

Not to my knowledge they haven’t. A while back, Ted Kennedy and other radical liberals such as Robert Byrd and Terry McAuliffe have been trying to label it as Vietnam for political advantage. However, I don’t think many people look at it that way.
If the Iraq situation became identical to that of Vietnam, the American people wouldn’t stand for it (myself) and would likely elect a President with the same view.

Memberokay so quit your bitching about the damn war…if you do not like that president bush sent our troops to iraq, then go vote on election day. and if you are not old enough…well then too bad. that’s all I have to say about this topic

MemberErrr… hes australian he can’t vote against bush no matter how old he is….
As to the situation in Iraq, it isn’t vietnam (about the only things the same are americans are involved, and they are fighting rebels, logistically the situation is very different), things could get better if the americans get there act together and stop alienating the population and the war on terrorism (especially the patriot act) is complete bull**** (the people who came up with the patriot act in my view are some of the worst traitors america has ever had)
Quote:quote:quit your bitching about the damn warPersonally I think criticism of the war in iraq is a good thing, as it’ll encourage the american govt to improve there performance in iraq, and a comment like that is just rude and unconstructive.

ParticipantSee, now why can’t we have -smart people- like the Penguin, in the US. But nooo, you have to be in the UK. *hopeless sigh*
Truely, crisitcism of the war isn’t a bad thing, it breaks us out of that box that has everyone seemingly thinking that everything we do is alright and take it to a more 3rd person, detatched place. Not that detatchment is always good, but when analyzing something that you yourself are very very close to, there’s a tendancy to be blinded by ones emotions and propaganda and not look at it logically.
Yes, I hope that your family, friends and roomate make it back in one piece, but really there’s no need to get hostile about it all. I realize it must be a very sensitive subject, but comments attacking people from Australia simply for their outlook on something that they’re obviously in no way connected to, a 3rd party outsider’s look into it, are completely unfounded. Just the fact that you didn’t see that he’s not even from the country proves that you’re being blinded by the subject matter and not thinking properly.Quote:quote:
if you are so concerened, why don’t YOU go out and enlist in the military? Why don’t you if you’re so obviously concerned about everything. It sounds to me that you’re simply lecturing other people about what they should/should not do and attacking anyone who has an inkling against the war. It’s their right to express their opinions, and to be perfectly blunt, you can either learn to accept people for their opinions and not get your panties in a bunch or you can leave, stop attacking people for their opinions and live a very closed minded, harsh life in which you attack anyone for expressing ideals contrary to your own.
You’ll learn after a while that you can’t go and bite every person’s head off who doesn’t agree with you. At least not without some hard, undeniable evidence and a very articulate, underhandedly chastising way of writing. People wont listen if they feel you’re just attacking and lashing out, and what’s the point then? You just have people pointedly ignoring you and dismissing everything you say.
