Forgive me if this has been addressed in another place, didn’t see it anywhere….here’s my problem. There’s someone on yahoo, x-g/f of a friend, knows my e-mail address, name, etc. She was spewing crap about me in a room. I did not block her because she uses several names, it is useless since I don’t know all these names and she knows mine. I did the mature thing and ignored it/her. I created a whole new yahoo account with another name. Here’s the kicker, I went into a room, there she was…and acknowledged me entering the room and started all over again. I want to add that only a couple of people I chat with knew my new s/n and they do not even know that I’m dealing with this crap. Is it possible for someone to someone see your account info? This is the only thing I can think of to explain how she knew it was me! I just want to ignore this situation and carry on my chatting with the people I truly calls buds. Help! Thanks!! 🙂

If you used a similar name, or filled in any obvious profile info, this would give it away.
If you created the new ID as an alias of an account, it’s possible that if they have you on the friendslist, they see the main account login, I know that for some of my buddies, when they log 1 ID in chat, I see all of their aliases login too on Messenger, which is also a giveaway.

Maybe the best way to deal with it is to confront her and ask why she won’t leave you alone. BUT then again, if she’s truly a sick-o that may make things worse. You know what she’s like, I don’t. Follow your instincts….if you think that you can reason with her, be like “HEY…what’s going on here? Why can’t you leave me out of this?” I hope you get things taken care of soon, I am sure that it’s frustrating!

The reason is because you chat on Yahoo through thier servers, which act as a proxy server. Only way she could know it was you by your IP address is because you initiated a P2P action with her (ie. webcam, send file). So she can’t tell it’s you by your IP address, so I wouldn’t worry about that if I were you. Not unless she’s hacking the servers that is. 😉

Kinda stinks though, some people are vicious. I guess I’ll just try another ID (I did create a whole new account, not create an alias in my existing account) and see what happens. Gotta take the good with the bad! Thanks again. ~btw, only posted a couple of times and think this site is a great help!! Keep it up!!
Peace 🙂 -
