Recently I have been shoping around for a domain name, and I finally came across a plan that looks right for me, but I need help figuring out if the site is legit, or if its just a scam. It never hurts to do your homework, and it looks like it is the real thing, but it is always good to get a second opinion. So here is the site: http://www.flashhostings.com/hosting.htm
I was hoping to get the silver plan.September 17, 2003 at 1:03 pm #55526AIM_Know_It_AllParticipantIt looks like a good deal, when your done with the site, show us 😀
September 17, 2003 at 1:44 pm #55517Jeff HesterKeymasterAlso check out http://www.hostkeeper.com with plans starting at $4.95/month and no setup fee.

Nice site, and a good plan, but not what I am looking for, I chose the site I did because of all the email features it has, and the sub domains and a few other things, but I am sure that that will work great for some other people. But what I really neaded to know was your opinions on this site, and if it is legit. (many sites like this are scams)
September 18, 2003 at 11:56 am #55520rustedtightMemberSCAM alert….. be very sure the URL you provided is correct cos http://www.flashhostings.com does not show on any ‘whois’ that I can run, all this means is that there is no data available as to who is responsible for registering the URL and its legitimacy must be questioned. A search of http://www.foundationapi.com also shows nothing. Several other checks failed. I would NOT give these guys my credit card details. However, be aware that I cant always find my sox in the morning.. so my search may prove nothing.
http://www.hostkeeper.com is indeed registered with an address to a human,
and would certainly seem to be legitimate, further investigation was not made on this URL.September 18, 2003 at 12:20 pm #55523ShadowSlayer469MemberQuote:quote:Originally posted by rustedtightSCAM alert….. be very sure the URL you provided is correct cos http://www.flashhostings.com does not show on any ‘whois’ that I can run, all this means is that there is no data available as to who is responsible for registering the URL and its legitimacy must be questioned. I am going to look further into this by contacting a man that is on the local news chanel that invesitages things like this, I will keep you informed of the details of his investigation.[sorry, he no longer does that anymore:(] Anyway, I was interested in http://www.foundationapi.com but when I clicked the link, it said this:Error
Error Message : Page cannot be displayedPlease file a support request with the entire error message
Are there any other good WHOIS web sites out there?
Oh yes, and I also found another hosting site that might fit me, but because that site does not work, and i don’t know any other WHOIS sites I cant check who it belongs to. The site is: http://www.3shost.com/windows.htmlQuote:quote:
Beginning Dec 10, 2001, we will not allow any UBB or yaBB bulletin board systems to operate on our servers. These BB’s are using flat files and put undue stress on the servers. For this reason, we will disallow these BB’s to run on our servers.Darn, I wanted a forum web site.
September 18, 2003 at 1:06 pm #55525AIM_Know_It_AllParticipantHow do you run a ‘whois’ search? ive heard of it
September 18, 2003 at 1:07 pm #55519rustedtightMemberI use a link that queries 30 ‘whois’ apps. I wont list them here. Use your search engine.
Meanwhile, try this site http://www.samspade.org

There’re plenty of places on the Internet where you could check WHOIS.
ShadowSlayer469- awesome website you have!
November 16, 2003 at 6:33 pm #55527Gill BatesMemberDO NOT SIGN UP FOR http://WWW.FLASHHOSTINGS.COM THEY ARE BIG SCAMMER, I’M AN EXISTING MEMBER AND I HATE THEM, THEY ARE ALWAYS DOWN, THEY SUSPEND YOUR ACCOUNT WHEN YOU HAVE ALOT OF TRAFFIC SO YOUR DOMAIN NAME WILL REDIRECT TO THEIR WEBSITE, THEY ARE TRAFFIC THIEF AND THEY WILL GIVE YOU SOME LAME EXCUSE AND UNSUSPEND YOUR ACCOUNT AFTER A WEEK, AND NOW THEY SHUT MY SITE DOWN AND SAY I EXCEEDED BANDWIDTH WHEN I PAID FOR THE UNLIMITED PLAN, THEY CHANGED THEIR WEBSITE AND DRIVED THEIR $60 UNLIMITED PLAN TO $195 AND THEY GIVE ME LAME EXCUSE AND SAY THEY ARE TESTING THEIR SERVER SO THEY CHANGED MY UNLIMITED TO 50GB, BUT HOW THE HELL I PAY $60 FOR UNLIMITED BANDWIDTH AND ONLY GET 50GB BANDWIDTH WHEN THEIR NEW UPDATED WEBSITE WITH $50 PLAN FOR 60GB BANDWIDTH?
IF YOU SIGN UP FOR THEM, YOU WILL RISK LOSING YOUR VISITORS TO THEIR WEBSITE, THEY ARE 99.9% UPTIME? MY ASS, MORE LIKE 49.9% UP TIME AND THE REST OF THE TIME THEY EITHER REDIRECT YOUR DOMAIN NAME TO THEIR HOMEPAGE OR THEY JUST SHUT YOUR ACCOUNT FOR A WEEK OR TWO THEN TURN IT BACK ON.
November 16, 2003 at 8:10 pm #55521DJHyperbyteMemberGill Bates, it is time for you to read the WHY DO ALL CAPS MAKE ME LOOK LIKE A MORON?” topic. Please avoid the usage of capital letters (unless where grammatically correct) in your future posts.
