Memberfirstly sorry guys if this is in the wrong place, feel free to move it to where it should be.
I’m a newbie, but have used the site before for lots of interesting things.
I have a question. i have been talking to this person who used to live in the uk, but is now telling everyone they live in NYC. on a message board their location time is set to GMT, but that could just be coz that’s where they registered. however, they visited one of my websites today, which has a sitemeter on and their domain was ntli.net. i actually use NTL myself.
i was wondering if, they took their PC with them, presuming it works in the US, would their domain show as ntli.net with a GMT timezone on it?
is this even possible or are they a monkey liar? just wondering what the experts think as i don’t want to try and call it if i could be wrong.
cheers guys – keep up the good work

Memberdo a trace on their IP address to see where their ISP’s server is located. http://www.visualroute.com has a nice graphical interface which will show you on a map of the world where that server’s located.
the time zone on a person’s computer doesn’t say anything about where they are. If you never look at your computer’s clock, you could set it hours ahead or behind the actual time, or even at a completely wrong date.
Unless their ISP, NTL, operates from several different countries under the same name, I’d say it’s doubtful that they’re still using it if they moved from the UK to the US.

Memberthanks FrutZle. i only have a partial IP and it says the netherlands, but then so does my ip and i’m in the UK, unless you do a trace, in which case mine says manchester. i will work on getting a full IP addy. This is pretty much as i thought, however i don’t know if ntli.net runs from the US. i wasnt sure if the IP would set the timezone and not the computer. if anyone else has any ideas, please lmk.
btw cheers for moving this thread – appreciate it

MemberAll of the following is public record or readily available.
teach, from your posts here I find that your IP is 213.106.41.39
which gave the following details…
Public1-Bolt5-5-cust39-manc-broadband.ntl.com
Location Oldham (This may simply be the office closest to you).NTL was registered as an ISP from Cardiff.
They provide broadband ONLY to the UK.
😎
http://www.ntl.com may provide an insight into their business.
A GMT time zone would of course be relavent for a UK based broadband provider.
In this case NTL does NOT mean NeTherLands.
I doubt your friend could pay the connection fees for a UK based broadband service from NYC.
Regarding ntli.net…
ntli.net is a notorious source of spam, their address is
Online House
Cleppa Park
Newport NP1 9UG UK. -
