U know how u can re-enable HTML in AIM’s newer versions? Well, can anyone figure out how to enable JavaScript? This would lead to al ot og great things on my point…… a cool little pop-up profile that shows pictures and stuff at any size you want……hehe…..?
Is there any way? Please post here or email me at:
HiddenShinobou@netscape.net
or, IM me at HiddenShinobou on AIM. Thank You.
The profile in AIM is a stripped down browser.
It’s not a matter of enabiling it, rather, hacking the source to add the ability to show images/execute javascript, recompiling it, then distributing it to everyone you know (and then some).
So, no. It can’t be done.
You can, however, link to a page with your javascript/pictures/embedded stuff, and have it open in a full fledged browser.
Thanks newrise, so if u recompile it, it could work? If i did that and it worked could i release a “beta” version of it off my site, or would AOL like sue me? or i could put a link in my profile for the download…..?
I was half joking. You *could* recompile it. It would be reverse-engineering, and AOL probably would not go for it.
It’s an impossibility. Even if AOL didn’t care what you did with the software (which they will; you’d theoretically let people run code on their machines) you’d have to know a lot of C(++) or assembler, as well as be familiar with HTML specs. AOL (or some other coding group) has the resources to program something like this and they didn’t for a reason. The potential for client-based trouble (malicious JS code) and network-based trouble (cross-site scripting) is too great.
What would really be the point in doing this? If you would
like to have some kind of script in your profile, simply make the link
open in a new Internet Explorer window. Why put so much work into
something so useless?
