If you’re running MSN Messenger 6.1 or newer, be especially careful about clicking on links from anyone. There’s a new worm circulating called Jitux, and it circulates by sending itself to everyone on your MSN Messenger contact list.
Read the article for all the details, and share any comments or questions here.
Anyone been infected?
Does this effect Trillian users or just MSN-Msgr6.1 Client users?
I believe it could affect Trillian users, sort of. If you click on the worm-sent link, it will still attempt to download to your computer, but if you’ve uninstalled MSN Messenger, it won’t have any way of sending messages to the people in your contact list… UNLESS you occassionally run MSN Messenger.
does it effect on MSN 6.0062 ….and how do we know its worm sent link….
This worm could have been a test before the person sent out a destructive virus and I think that the person should be traced and questioned on what the person was doing. Any normal person would have told Microsoft of a security hole.
This freaks me out a little as I leave my messenger signed in 24/7 and appear offline, this worm could have been round all my contacts by now. Luckily for me I have a virus scanner which says my computer is clean of any infections and I have installed a patch to stop the worm entering my computer.
This is the second big thing to affect NT, XP and 2003 now, I really think Microsoft should take to heart that their so called ‘security’ prevention is not preventing.
