ParticipantI just installed my norton internet security 2006 and now my Aim wont connect, i really dont want triton (not that that connects when i DL it) but yeah for some reason my Aim wont work when i have my internet security enabled. It only works if i disable it. But no when i just turn the firewall off…this topic was posted previously with someone else, but nobody answered my question on that so i made it a new topic please help. is there anything i can do besides uninstall & reinstall norton? that took long.

MemberI have a suggestion. I have found a messenger friendly virus scanner and it’s pretty good. Norton gave me a headache. I had Norton’s Internet security and it about drove me insane. I gave it away after paying 80.00 for it. Windows One Care Live is really good. If you like to give it a try you can go to the microsoft url and download it.

MemberNorton Internet Security has a list of programs that its firewall either blocks or allows based on what you put. I’d suggest that you find this list and make sure AIM is allowed.

MemberHello Atticusl3:
See if this helps, open Norton Internet Security, go to the personal firewall tab and click on it, on the lower rigth side click on configure, on the page that will show, click on the programs tab, locate AIM in the list and make shure that internet access for it is set to automatic and that you select Instant Messaging as the category. Hope this solves your problem.

ParticipantThats just it…sorry i must have left it out… My norton works fine and if i paid that much i better use it. and AIM is on the list and i put it to Permit All. I went to configure and everyhing, but its still blocked. That was my problem sorry i must have gave a misunderstanding. And thats why i dont wanna get rid of norton, i got a bunch of viruses and spyware and i just had to find the best out there unfortanetly…it took what i use the most on here, AIM. But anyway yeah AIM is on the Permit Access list, but norton is still not letting it go. And like i said before if i turn off the firewall AIM does NOT work (as well as when its on) but if i disable the whole internet security it DOES work. Hope you guys can help me.

ParticipantI don’t use aim all that much as i’m more of a Yahoo user, but i do have it as well as Norton Internet Security with the firewall. For me it has never blocked the few times i’ve used AIM. My settings for it under the programs is for internet access Automatic and for catergory Multiple. So instead of having it on permit all as you do, try doing that? Also as a side note turning off the pop-up blocking and ad-blocking under Anti-Spam can sometimes do wonders while still protecting your computer.

ParticipantYou know that same place you went to before Norton Internet Security>Personal Firewall>Configure>Programs then when you find America Online Instant Messenger under the Program list. Well to the right of that there is two list one says Internet Access and the other should say Category. So on whatever category it is currently on (General, Chat, E-mail, etc) click on it and a list comes up and you choose Multiple. Hope you find it.

Participanti went to check it out and i got nothing..well idk if maybe its a different version but theres no category list…um…then i went to help right and it said…category (tutorial at least) and it told me to click on it to pick which category but i couldnt find it. i think its cause i dont have it on parental control, and even if thats the problem i dont know how to get it on parental control so that i can find that list…heres what the tutorial thing told me:
Category
The category that this program is placed in for Parental Control. Click this entry to change the category.April 5, 2006 at 3:55 pm #141559Atticusl3

MemberHas anybody answered this yet? I am having the opposite problem. One PC in my house has AIM Triton 1.0.3 and it has a “Connect Error”, while another PC (with an older version of AIM) is working fine after loading Norton Internet Security 2006 (with Internet Security turned on)….
Bottom line for anybody trying to assist.
I want to use NIS 2006—don’t try to talk me out of it…..I want one of my PC’s to still be able to use AIM Triton…..I have to get past the “Connect Error”…..another clue—when I turned “Internet Security” in NIS 2006 off for five minutes, the AIM Triton worked…
