Yes, there is a chat room — click the “Chat” link in the menu bar near the top of the page.
As for member profiles, you can click on the member list in the navigation menu (also near the top of the forum), or click on any member’s name next to their post to see their profile.
If you have any questions, feel free to post them in the forum.

(Just to add on to what Jeff Mentioned), much Navigation can be done through the top panel of BigBlueBall. (Home, IM Basics, Downloads, Chat (IRC) , and Fourms. …All availible through that top panel. *looks up, points* 😉
