KeymasterI moved this to our off-topic forum because it didn’t belong in the AIM forum. I also renamed the title. HINT: If you want good answers, use a descriptive title!

Participantyeah – the one i use for any websites i create (i’ve made a few so far) is http://www.freewebs.com/
it’s free, doesnt use ads (all it requires is a really small line across the bottom of your page (its one line of text saying “this page was created for free…” yada yada yada – very reasonable, much better than big banners or popups!), and is easy to use. there’s two levels – beginner for people who dont know HTML, and experienced for those who do. either way its really easy to work with. the only downside is that it doesnt support forms (checkboxes, textboxes, etc) which might come in handy once in a while…
hope that helps yaAugust 8, 2003 at 4:56 pm #57548Faizan

ParticipantQuote:quote:Does it support asp/asp.net ?not the free version… you can upgrade to “Premium” for whatever their fee is. i havent done that because i dont need to pay for a site that i only use as an AIM profile extension.

It’s a shame DotNetPlayground was closed…
http://www.Brinkster.com has ASP/ASP.NET support, but it chokes on Server.Createobject. Another alternative is hosting yourself, if you are running a low traffic site, and you have broadband Internet, or you just need a testing platform, IIS (ASP/ASP.NET) or PWS (ASP) will run on any Windows OS (Greater than Win3.11)

MemberMost of the free sites don’t support databases like MySQL or PHP unless you sign up for them. I have accounts with spaceports.com, My J Space and Lycos UK.
Most if not all of the free servers have annoying pop-ups or banner ads, but for testing a site idea before you decide to get it it’s own domain, free is the way to go.
For sites that don’t need database backup, I’ve used Geocities for years and never had any problems with them. I’m just a beginner with PHP anyway.
