ViewpointKiller – Removes Viewpoint Media Player completely from your pc. AIM installs VMP secretly, and sometimes AIM reinstalls it.
Find ViewpointKiller at: http://www.prprogramsstudios.tkJanuary 24, 2006 at 5:49 am #84297TigerbladeParticipantThese are files needed by a lot of the programs here. You don’t need to download any of these unless you get an error when trying to run anything that tells you there is a missing and needed DLL file. Place these files in the same folder of the program you downloaded and everything should work fine. If you want to keep these files permanently so you don’t need to find them again, put them in C:windowssystem32 (if you’re using Windows XP) or C:windowssystem (if you’re using Windows 98). All of these missing files are EXE’s because they are Self Extracting Archives (are compressed but extract on their own)
MSVBVM60.DLL – 722 KB
OLE32.DLL – 446 KB
COMCTL32.DLL – 343 KB
MSCVR70.DLL – 186 KB
MSVCRT.DLL – 160 KB
COMDLG32.OCX – 95.3 KB
MSINET.OCX – 91.3 KB
MSWINSCK.OCX – 88.8 KB
WSOCK32.DLL – 66.5 KB

Common features include ad-removal, tabbed IM windows, logging, etc.
AIM Ad Hack – Removes ads from AIM, allows cloning, and also removes most of the adware that comes with AIM. Suggested if you want to keep AIM’s clean look and stick with the basic features
AImutation – Logging, Remove AIM ads, tabbed windows, skinning, etc. For AIM Classic only
Price: Was several dollars, Now it is freeDeadaim 4.5 – Same thing as Aimutation except it doesn’t have skinning. For AIM Classic only
Price: $5Deadaim 3.2.1 – Adds functionability to AIM, such as tabbed IM windows and logging. For AIM Classic only
Price: Free (older version)GoodAIM (SOCKS proxy) – Includes the same standard features currently in the other AIM addons. For AIM Classic only
Price: FreeJAMS – a collection of plugins for Triton
Messenger:Mate – Themes, cloning, lock messenger, logging and more. For AIM Classic only
Price: $10middle_man – An addon for AIM: logging, adremoval, cloning. For AIM Classic only
Price: FreeVario – An addon for AIM: logging, tabbed windows, adremoval, aliasing, etc. For AIM Classic only
Price: FreeJanuary 24, 2006 at 5:58 am #84294TigerbladeParticipantWhile most AIM Addon’s log your conversations already, there are also standalone programs.
If you find this to be a resource hog on your PC, try one of the AIM enhancers listed in this forum topic. Almost all of them feature AIM logging:
Google Desktop Search – Not only does it log your conversations in real-time, but you can also use Google to search through your conversations and find whatever your heart desires
JAMS – a collection of plugins for Triton, including EZlogger: “Saves all your IMs and chat conversations to disk. You can view saved conversations by selecting a buddy and choosing ‘Show IM Logs’ from the Actions menu. If no buddy is selected, the folder with all conversations is displayed.”
January 24, 2006 at 5:59 am #84295TigerbladeParticipantRandom programs that don’t fall under any of the other categories (but this certainly doesn’t mean that they aren’t useful).
IM Hider – Hide AIM and all windows with the push of a hotkey combo (Ctrl + B, Alt + B, etc)
DotMacRegister – Register Mac SN’s that use the format “[email protected]” and can be used on AIM, and your SN will be in the format “[email protected]”.
AIM Server List – TXT file containing most of the AIM servers
AwaySwitcher (autoaway) – Will rotate between multiple Away messages that you make in a set time interval.
AIM Buddylist recovery – Did your AOL/AIM account get suspended? Get your userinfo.bag file, open it with notepad and paste it into here, itll roughly reassemble your Buddylist and return it in .BLT format.
WhosOnline 1.1 – Program that goes through your buddylist and tells you who is ghosting.
BuddyTell – Lets you send a message to every user on your list.
Arub’s Chameleon – This is a program will change the buddylist background color, buddy list setup background color (some versions), buddy highlight, buddy names, buddy tool tip, and the background color of the buttons on the bottom of the buddylist.
Applesauce – Easily change the colors of your AIM windows
MiniAIM – This is a full version of AIM, but it’s all of 87kb! Tabbed IM’s and everything. Also see this topic
IM Link Tracker – tool to track which screen names click on your AIM profile links. Tracks screen name, IP address, date and time of click and the link that was clicked.
January 24, 2006 at 6:00 am #84298TigerbladeParticipantA list of programs that provide protection and privacy for your IM’ing by use of encryption
Pyboticide v1.31 beta – Filter AIM chats so you dont see all those bots spamming with links
SecureIM – SOCKS4 “localhost” Encyption Proxy which uses 2048 bit RSA key enchange and 256 bit BlowFish encryption
Secway SimpLite AIM – Another “localhost” Encyption Proxy which encrypts any client that connects to the AIM networks with SOCKS4 support. Ability to secure conversations with both users having different AIM clients. Works better than SecureIM though its not open source.
AIM Encryption Certificate (free) – If someone on your network is using a “packet sniffer” or other type of traffic analyzing tool they can see your AIM conversations and read them word for word. AIM Security using SSL Certificates makes your conversation appear much like trash to anyone analyzing what you type much like “Sw43jg73js7HSkg8Skeq3k65” instead of “Hello Friend”. This certificate encodes the message so only the sender and the receiver can read the message.
January 24, 2006 at 6:01 am #84299TigerbladeParticipantTools that can be used to do highly modify or optimize AIM. ResHack is the main program used for modifying AIM, and if you want to change colors, remove buttons, reword text, etc, it is the key to doing so.
ResHack – Modify AIM… you may want to read this sticky for more information: Jon8RFC’s Stuff
ModAIM – Ad Removal, New Icons, Shorter Menus, Cleans up the IM window interface
AIM AD Hack – Removes AIM ads, Removes AIM buttons, Removes spyware installed by AIM, Allows resizing of AIM buddylist window
Jon8RFC ad-remover patch – Patchers for all AIM versions 5.x to remove the ad and ad space at the top of the buddylist
MiniFormat – I recently found AIM would not allow me to format my screename, this did. Go to options > “Format screename once”
Arub’s Chameleon – Allows you to change the colors of your buddylist (backgrounds, highlights, etc) without having to mess around with any hex editing…January 24, 2006 at 6:03 am #84300TigerbladeParticipantMessengers created by users and small businesses that make use of the Yahoo!, MSN, ICQ, and AIM networks by merging all your contacts from each service into one buddylist and allowing you to be on / control all of them at once from the program. When picking a 3rd party messenger, I would suggest trying Trillian and Gaim first, and see if you are satisfied with either of those.
Trillian – Trillian is a fully featured, stand-alone, skinnable chat client that supports AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo Messenger, and IRC. It provides capabilities not possible with original network clients, while supporting standard features such as audio chat, file transfers, group chats, chat rooms, buddy icons, multiple simultaneous connections to the same network, server-side contact importing, typing notification, direct connection (AIM), proxy support, encrypted messaging (AIM/ICQ), SMS support, and privacy settings.
Gaim – Gaim is a multi-protocol instant messaging (IM) client for Linux, BSD, MacOS X, and Windows. It is compatible with AIM and ICQ (Oscar protocol), MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, SILC, GroupWise Messenger, and Zephyr networks. Gaim users can log in to multiple accounts on multiple IM networks simultaneously.
Gaim supports many features of the various networks, such as file transfer, away messages, typing notification, and MSN window closing notification. It also goes beyond that and provides many unique features. There are MANY plugins, consisting of text replacement, a buddy ticker, extended message notification, iconify on away, spell checking, tabbed conversations, and more.Miranda – Miranda IM is a multi protocol instant messenger client for Windows. Miranda IM uses very little memory and is extremely fast. Just unzip and run! This also makes it ideal for users that want to run their messenger client from a removable storage such as an USB memory stick. It can even be stored on a floppy disc if not too many plugins are used. Its powerful plugin system makes Miranda IM very flexible. Only the most basic features are built in, but there are currently around 500 free plugins available for download that allows users to extend the functionality of Miranda IM.
Meebo – Web Based AIM. Highly Recommended. Amazingly well done. Based on Web 2.0. Kicks the crap out of AIM Express.
TerraIM – TerraIM is a fully-featured OSCAR-protocol (TOC optional) AIM client which is a standalone exe–no installation necessary; can be carried on floppy, cd or flash drive. Skinning is also supported.
miniaim – miniaim is another standalone exe, but not quite as featured as TerraIM. The goal of miniaim is to retain the smallest file size possible and fastest operation. This client runs off of TOC, which is the older (yet still reliable), protocol that AIM supports.

Programs that allow you to get on AIM with multiple screen names:
If you don’t want to use AIM screename linking you can use these programs which allow you to run multiple instances of AIM.AIM Ad Hack – Patches AIM so that you can open it as many times as you want–this works well, but “aim:” links won’t function properly.
AIM Express (web-based)
January 27, 2006 at 8:03 am #84292Someguy03MemberIs your AIM randomly IMing people on its own and sending them links that you have never seen before? Are you recieving them from other people? Is there a message in your profile saying “LOOK AT THIS! *LINK*” ? Then Get this program. It will remove all of the software/trojans on your computer that cause these problems
AIM Fix – Updated frequently. Highly Suggested
ViewpointKiller – Removes Viewpoint Media Player completely from your pc. AIM installs VMP secretly, and sometimes AIM reinstalls it.

GAIMGaim is capitalized incorrectly here as GAIM. the Gaim FAQ: http://gaim.sourceforge.net/faq.php#q1Also, how come programs are not listed here in alphabetical order? (i.e. Trillian before Gaim, Meebo, and Miranda) It probably will make more sense if someone alphabetizes these lists (or at least describes/explains how they are currently organized).
As long as Xeon’s site is being reconstructed you can get most of the AIM versions from http://jon8rfc.homeip.net/aim/versions/
March 7, 2006 at 4:07 am #84306BlueSkies45MemberTigerblade – check out this site and let me know what you think… http://www.imlinktracker.com
It’s a tool to track which screen names click on your AIM profile links. Tracks screen name, IP address, date and time of click and the link that was clicked.
