What racing games, arcade & console, would you say were the great games prior to Gran Turismo? Pole Position and Bump N’ Jump are pretty legendary.;)
Bump N’ Jump

September 14, 2005 at 9:24 pm #130156Red DevilMemberMicro Machines, Virtua Racing and Sega Rally for me!
I’ve played Pole Position on the Namco Museum on GBA and I don’t think much of it… maybe thats just me.

I think Street Racer (made in 1977) for the Atari 2600 is one of the first video racing games, maybe the first, but I don’t know.
September 15, 2005 at 12:35 am #130152Jeff HesterKeymasterI agree with Anna, ExciteBike was GREAT for it’s time. Good memories.
Rad Racer for the NES. I used to play the heck out of that game.
Top Gear for the SNES. Another great game!
And although not a real racing game (throwing bananas, turtle shells, etc) Super Mario Kart is my old time favorite from all.
I’m such a video game nerd! *snorts*

I have Street Racer. Indy 500 was also released on cart for the Atari 2600 in 1977. Indy 500’s game variations were based on the arcade classics Gran Trak 10 and Crash N’ Score.:)

And 8bit, yeah, I knew there was at least one racing game made in that year for the 2600.. I forgot about that other one.
