I’m switching over from an old screen name that I’ve been using for a long time to a new one which I intend on staying on.
What I want to do is link them (already done that), but have my old screen name have up a constant away message that say
(Screen name here)
I am no longer using this name.
This would be perfect – I would always be logged on my old name, and if anyone wants to contact who doesn’t know my new name, will instantly get a message informing them of my new name.
Is this possible? Can this be done?
Thanks for any help.
you could try logging on your old name, changing the default away message to your desired message and then signing on your new one. hopefully, it will use your default message from your old screen name. id try this myself but ive had alot of problems linking my screen names before and have given up even attempting to link them.
Tried something like that, but no dice.
Yeah it’s a pain in the ass. I’ve got them linked fine, I’ve even gotten it to the point where when I put an away message up, my old SN brings the “IM me on my new SN” message and my new SN uses the “Away from comptuer” msg.
I just need to figure out how to get one linked name to be away while the other isn’t..
how about go get a program add on like Otsego, clone aim, and then do it that way..
you could try http://www.webaim.net
they let you log on to aim and close all windows while still leaving you logged on. you could probably just set up a permanent message to be sent. im sure theres some time limit before they sign you out but it could work. and its all web based.
another option would be to use cloning if you dont mind the extra process running on your system all the time.
Good idea with that webaim.net idea, i’m gonna look into that
