MemberDoes anyone here know anything about Linux?
Now is there any good AIM clients for Linux?

MemberYeah…Linux, it’s free (mostly). IMO, the best AIM client for Linux is GAIM. It is included with most of the Linux distros. Fedora is an awesome version (fedora.redhat.com). SuSE is another fairly decent one, but it isn’t free unless you download it via FTP after booting from a floppy. Fedora is completely free and constantly being updated…dual-boot with it is great too if you aren’t completely sure about the switch. Enjoy Linux…the best out there…any questions feel free to ask.

MemberI have a PII, 233 Mhz, 2 4 giggers, I just want to get Linux on there to mess around. Then when I learn it better, I will bulid a machine souly for it. I don’t believe in partitioning. So with this box I will keep it on with XP. I need Winblows for Word and what not, because I have a lot of work I need windows, anyways what is my point? oh yeah so what is a good Linux Version for the previous described computer? And with it’s linux does it support Direct connect? I mean hwo come they were able to figuer out OCSCER?

MemberI’d say Slackware might be best for slow machines, but it takes a lot of work if you don’t know Linux very well. The fact of the matter is, any linux distro will run on pretty much any processor, depending on how you do the installation. It’d be nice if some distro’s would actually have optimized installs for old PCs. But just read up on what to install and what not to install for slower computers and you should be fine.

MemberI had Redhat 6 or 7 (i believe) on there a few years ago, but that confused the hell out of me. I’m thinking of just buliding a box for it ground up. Nothing fancy like a PIV, 2.5 giggish, 128 meg, 80 gig HD. Jeff should make a Linux group on here.

ParticipantRAM!
I’d go 256MB of 512MB, go lower on the CPU if you have to, its RAM that counts.
Linux is sweet, I love Fedora.

MemberOn this box, I got a 1.7 PIV running with 512, for windows it works damn fast.

MemberI had Mandrake 8.2 running great on a PII 233 mhz, I think that Mandrake is one of the easier distros for Linux beginners. Fedora/Redhat is up there too.
