Hey guys, I was just wondering what people thought of Linux.. I know most of them are free, but some you have to pay for. Also… if you like Linux, what is your favorite kind? (ubuntu, redhat, ect.).
Also, how does Linux compared to Windows or Mac in… uh… “user-friendly” I guess are the words I’m looking for. like… do you have to go to “run” command… ect just to run a program… and so on.(a little off topic, but how do you spell the expanded form of “ect”? excettera? that doesn’t look right…)

I’ve used Fedora Core 3, Knoppix, and DamnSmallLinux (the latter two are LiveCD distros, meaning you can run it straight off a CD instead of having to install it). FC3 is very user-friendly. Having never used any form of linux before, I found it very easy to figure out and use. I can’t really speak much beyond that, considering I have very limited experience.
and … it’s et cetera.

Also, which is better: Wine, Winex, or Cedega for running games on Linux?

(I also didn’t even recognize it, no wonder everybody uses “etc” :D)January 30, 2007 at 2:01 am #157568BShink21MemberI personally like Ubuntu. I think its quite user friendly.
+It’s free.
January 30, 2007 at 4:13 am #157567SpikeMemberI use Fedora Core 6 on a Dell at home here, and I must say it’s very nice. It isn’t like Windows, though, so don’t go into Linux thinking you won’t have to learn anything.
Some other good free distros that I would recommend are: SuSE Linux, Gentoo Linux, (K)ubuntu (There are ubuntu live cd’s so you don’t need to install it), and probably others, too.
Here’s a site that has the download links to all of the distros I mentioned. Give one a try, and if you find you don’t like it, try another one. Although they are all Linux, they can be very different within themselves. 😉
