Hi all. I’ve been using MSN Messenger 7.5 for the last couple of years and the Live Mesesenger 8 (Final ver) for the last couple of weeks.
Three friends of mine added me as a contact several days ago but I never got the notification box which appears on the upper left corner of the screen and asks if I want to accept their invitations, etc. So I never knew they added me until today !! (and that’s because I’ve removed the Live 8 and installed back the MSN 7.5 and I got all three notifications instantly !!) in the meantime I’ve been using the Live 8 Messenger daily of course, never got any notifications!! I think these 3 people are still using MSN Messenger 7.5 and they added me from in there … Is that why I was NEVER notified that they added me ?? Somebody please help with this REALLY ANNOYING issue (I tried to report it to the Microsoft Live Developers but I don’t know how) 🙁
I have had similar problems and have asked in a few forums if I can solve it but now seems to know so I’m sticking with msn 7.5 until it’s fixed or all my contacts are using wlm.
Thank you Benjamin, it’s good to know at least that I’m not the only one with this problem and there’s nothing wrong with my WLM/MSN account or locally with my pc … Anyone of you guys out there knows the URL where I can post this issue to the Microsoft WLM guys so it can be fixed ?… (I just hope they’re aware of this and someone is looking at it) 😮

I’ve asked this question all over the net in forums like this and I don’t get very far. Msn seems the best option for now.
I also had this issue and didn’t even realise it! Several people added me and started talking to me, and I was just like.. wow how the hell did you get here?
Anyway, I also noticed that if you go to your Contacts menu scroll to Filter Contacts (it should be “show all contacts” as default) and change it to “View Messenger contacts only” then back to “show all contacts” it actually re-adds all the contacts you have deleted in the past. VERY odd!
but how do you sort out the thing of not recieving notification when people have added u.
I want to use wlm but it just confuses me and I’m not that bad at computers but i can’t figure this out.

I’ve emailed them but not really got very far.
First they told me to do this
To add a contact from the Non-Instant Messaging contact list:
1. Select the contact from the Contact list in the main window. Go to the Non-Instant Messaging contact. These are the contacts with an address book icon beside them. Look for the contact you want to add.
2. Right-click the contact, and then select Edit contact.
3. If the user is not already a Windows Live Messenger contact, the option Use with Messenger will be available. Select the option Use with Messenger, and then click Save.
4. The user will now appear on your contact list as a Windows Live Messenger contact.To add a contact from the Allow list:
1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click Privacy.
2. From the Allow List , right-click the contact you want to add, and then click Add to Contacts.
3. Click OK. The user will now appear on your Windows Live Messenger contact list.I do hope that the information I have given you would be useful in resolving your concern. If you experience any issues with Windows Live Messenger, we are always just one e-mail away and we are always more than happy to assist your further. I assure you that your satisfaction is our top concern.

That didn’t work because I don’t have any contacts with the address book because new contacts don’t appear at all let alone with an address book.
I emailed them again and then they seemed to assume it was just people using yahoo messenger that I couldn’t add when I’d not mentioned yahoo. They talked me through how to add yahoo messenger contacts but like I said I can’t add anyone with any email address.
They are being helpful and hopefully they get to the bottom of it.
If anyone else can figure out from what they said please let me know because it’s getting frustrating now.

I’ve just recieved another email and they seem to be looking at this as it’s a problem with my pc or wlm account which I don’t see how because it’s always worked fine on msn.
They want me to give permission for them to go into my account and see for themselves which means I won’t be able to use it for a few days.
I’ve decided to just use msn because it ain’t worth the hassle and they don’t seem to know whats causing the problem and to be honest don’t really seem to read what I’m saying becasue they thought I couldn’t add yahoo messenger contacts when I never mentioned that.
I told them i couldn’t add contacts at all and they said that to go to the names I have added that would be showing as a address book contact but thats just the problem. They don’t show up at all.
I wouldn’t of thought it was that hard to understand that people can’t add contacts and alot of my mates have the same problem. Why it can’t be as easy as it was on msn is beyond me. What use is something if you can’t add contacts to it.
I was frustrated with it all before and I definatley am now lol.
Hope someone else has better luck with this than I did.
MSN isn’t that bad after all so will use that for now.

Usually emailing them is a joke. Need to get up several people and have everyone email them. The larger the number the better. That is the only thing that will make them do anything and actually look into problems
Well they weren’t really ‘listening’ to what my problem was and were just in my opinion sending anything to try and fix the problem. The yahoo messenger thing proved they weren’t actually taking me seriously because like I said it was never mentioned.
I hope other people email and then we might get somewhere….
Another place you can try is the Windows Live Messenger Newsgroup. Seems like bringing up problems there actually helps and problems get reported unlike emailing them.
I tried that but no reply as yet and i’ve posted the problems I have on a few forums but no one knows anything, people just say they have the same problem so don’t seem like it will be sorted anytime soon.
I’ve never had to deal with microsoft support before but was surprised by how unhelpful they were.
if anyone else has the same problem please email them and maybe they’ll look into it
