Am using MSN 7.0 (Build 7.0.0816) on Win 2k, a friend(officially invited to BETA) of mine runs Live Messenger on an XP machine.
We were trying to test, messaging while she appeared offline. I could reply the message and she could receive the message too, when I did immediately after she sent a message.
But if I am responding to a message after some delay (approx 15-30 seconds) I get a message cannot be delivered error.
This most probably looks like a protocol interaction bug, but just wondering if it might be at my end.
A sidey question –> Is it possible to install WLM in Win 2K? 😀

Remember they both have different features. it could be your MSN Messenger 7 is saying message cannot be delivered because the other person you are talking to is using WLM. Simple as that. Also as far as I’m concerned it is not possible to install WLM in Win2k.
Don’t expect much help for Windows Live Messenger at the moment. After all it is a BETA meaning bugs are to be experienced. I’ve experienced some bugs of my own, tried to report them using help “customer feedback” but that webpage doesn’t work. 😛

I dunno what the problem could be, the most advice I could offer is to keep experimenting with it, that’s what they want you to do in a beta, anyway, play around with it, get to know it, etc.

MSN Messenger 7 has a client side restriction which prevents you from chatting while appearing offline i.e the message typing area is grayed out and you can’t type in it. But in order to start a new conversation MSN Messenger has to communicate with the server that maintains your presence. If you dont send a message for a minute and a half, the chat server disconnects you automatically but you dont get to know about it since MSN Messenger reconnects in background when you send another message but when you’re appeared offline you can not start a new conversation and hence you’re unable to send a message after that idle time.
Bottom Line: you can start a conversation and change your status to appeared offline but you can’t start a conversation after you’ve changed your status to appeared offline.

However the bottomline: As a BETA user you can start a conversation immaterial of the online status. Receiving a response however would depend on how quick the reciepient responds.

It just something that comes up periodically thats why i though the problem was on my side. After it happens i have to reconnect, go online and then appear offline again. It takes fits. I have other messengers connected and even mirc running and the only things that disconnects is windows live messenger.
