Okay..I’m ABSOLUTELY sure I have the LATEST version of AIM.
When I try to invite someone in AIM to video chat, I get this message:
“An upgrade is needed for AOL Instant Messenger Live Video.
The upgrade will download the component, exit AIM, run the installer, then restart AIM.”
I downloaded the upgrade and stuff and then it gives me another error message that said something about already having the necessary components downloaded for video chat? This is frustrating.

- What version are you running exactly? Find it under Help > About AIM
- What operating system are you using?
- Does your webcam work with other programs?
- Has your webcam ever worked in AIM before?

December 30, 2007 at 5:56 pm #115882davewilsonMemberI also cannot get AIM live video. I have AIM 6.5.4.16. I got a Microsoft LiveCam for Christmas from my son,(he got one for himself) and we both signed up for Windows Live Messenger. Works great between the two of us. However, most of my friends are on AIM. How do i get live video on AIM? Do I have the right version and is the video service free? (like Windows Live Messenger). Appreciate any help.
