How can someone locate an IP address. I recieved a warning from Norton. It had a remote address and a local address.

An IP address isn’t really all that useful for tracking someone specific. Only the ISP can do that.

Additionally, sometimes not even an ISP can track an IP, depending on the ISP the IP may change frequently and not be able to be traced very well.
If Norton blocked the connection attempt, don’t bother to track it, really, it’s not worth it.

But then again firewalls like norton and zonealarm will tell you an ip address is attempting access even with a simple port scan, and port scans happen on the internet all the time because the programs used scan a range of IP’s and there ports, could be a simple misunderstanding. the firewalls dont provide detailed information as to what is really happening.
Hope this post could help you.

Is what I always use. The database isn’t 100% complete, so it might be wrong on occasion, but it’s pretty reliable in my usage. One thing that usually does not work are dial-up IP address, namely, AOL dial-up; AOL dial-up usually points to Virginia, I think.
Anyways, it’s still a great little tool and it’s fairly reliable.
