I must say I never knew such facility existed … but indeed when I enter “ymsgr:” into my Firefox it DOES indeed launch YM.
But I have my YM in a “non-default” folder too, and it seems to work fine – so I’d guess this gets set up when you install YM. (Probably in registry somewhere, but I wouldn’t know where).
Have you changed the location SINCE you originally installed YM ?
If so, perhaps a reinstall would correct it ?

I believe I have already told you that Yahoo’s install doesn’t seem to clear up everything properly (mind you, neither does MSN Messenger’s) *sigh* so that could be why it is not working.
However, I have found a way to choose where Yahoo! Messenger opens from when a link using the ymsgr: protocol is called.
This method involves the registry, so please only proceed once backing up your registry and if you are comfortable with editing your registry.
Neither myself nor BigBlueBall are responsible for any damage this solution causes to your system.
Navigate to the following key:
HKLMSoftwareClassesymsgrshellopencommand
Modify the following string value:
(Default)
I’ll clean this solution up later.
