MemberI use AIM in an office and somone asked me if someone where to look, could they read a previous conversation? I explained only if the logging feature in AIM was turned on. I went into AIM preferences to show her, but I could not find it. We are using the latest version. Is the logging feature removed? Is there no way for anyone to view past conversations even a well trained network admin?
I do remember a logging feature, just so I know I am not going crazy 🙂November 5, 2002 at 3:18 am #99704magistyk
MemberI don’t believe their is anyway to log anymore on AIM, Trillian does let you log though, and there are some add-ons I believe that let you log.

MemberQuote:quote:Is there no way for anyone to view past conversations even a well trained network admin?Sure. Anyway even a badly trained network admin is familiar with key logging apps.
Network admins are (amongst other duties) there to protect the company, so the content of outgoing msgs are of extreme importance.
If your network admin seems a happy soul its prolly ’cause of reading outgoing logs. 😀Quote:quote:Hope this helps. I’m still trying to look for a free one.Well NO, It doesn’t. nowhere is it mentioned that these ‘back-up’ apps produce a chat history or a log of past chats, and that is the subject of the forum.

MemberTo all who responded here – I thank you very much.
Ironically to the last post, I am on a Mac using iChat – did not realize iChat did log a file. Everyone else in the office is on a PC. A few us use AIM, and one has the most recent. This was the computer user who was curious about old conversations.
But I think I got a good idea – AIM has removed logging on the most recent version (for what ever reason), the older version does have it but is not on by default. Thanks everyone.

MemberThough the new version of AIM (5.0) doesn’t have a logging feature, you can save all of your conversations if you want. That is what i did for a while, but it gets really anoying. Also, MyIM found at http://home.rochester.rr.com/artcfox/MyIM/Download.html has a logging feature, unfortunately, MyIM doesn’t work with any of the AIM 5.0 versions.

KeymasterThere’s another add-on that I just installed today and am testing called A.I.M. Frame that also does logging (as well as spell checking, nicknames for your buddies, extended buddy info and a lot more). It’s also a commercial product, but the cost is reasonable. I’ll test for a few days and post my review.
