I just recently got a new laptop with Microsoft Home Vista as my OS. Now everytime I try to login to Yahoo Messenger, it tells me there was a problem logging in and comes with options “new user”, “sign-in problems” or “try again”. Now I can login to my yahoo mail and I have no problems with my password. I thought maybe it was Vista’s firewall and Norton’s firewall, but I have them both “allow” for messenger.
I can figure this out. Any suggestions?
Oh and also window live messenger isn’t allowing me to login too.
Please Help, thanks.Oh, I would like to add that I uninstalled and reinstall messenger a couple of times and that didn’t help.

Make sure Vista is set to the proper date. Yahoo Messenger has a peculiar bug that will cause exactly what you’re experiencing if the date is set to say 2038 or something.

Any other suggests?March 28, 2007 at 12:26 pm #159579DermotParticipantDo you have the latest Build of Messenger? (8.1.0.244 as of this post)
When you installed it did you run the install as administrator.
Perhaps reinstalling the messenger totally from standalone exe and not web suite downloader may help.
However not been a Vista user it may be something else i haven’t noticed.

My first reaction is you’ve got Vista Firewall and Norton on the same machine and both running? Most firewalls don’t play well together. Also if you’re on a wireless router for your laptop (as I am) some of them have a built in firewall. I also got a new laptop with Vista Home Premium preloaded. I disabled the Vista firewall and did not elect to use Norton as my router has a built in firewall. I’ve had no trouble logging in. Occasionally I get the try again screen, but when I do I’m always successful so I doubt it’s a conflict with Yahoo and Vista causing the problem. In the past, even on XP, when I had firewalls set to allow MSN and Yahoo I had various problems so I chose to disable mine and run only the router firewall with great success. Good Luck! (But please do make sure you have some firewall protection – I am NOT advocating no firewall at all!!)
