My dad wants a new laptop and he needs some help in finding the right one. Since y’all are so in the know about computers, what better way then to ask you!? 😀
Here is what he wants in terms of specs:
– At least 2.4 GHz processor
– Nothing extra (minimal to no gaming requirements..it is mainly for business…so no Alien Ware ;))
– Ample hardrive (around 30 GB+)
– At least 512 RAMI have read that Centrino is weak. Is AMD 64 good for a laptop?
Any help? 🙂

I think they named the HP Pavilion dv8000z as the top rated, but they also list the most popular ones being sold too. Good luck!

Those are business-class laptops with parallel specifications to what you mentioned above. Google them both, and see if you can find a good deal on eBay or something; I bought my laptop NIB for $600 including shipping, and it’s the latest (not greatest ;)) model (Toshiba Satellite).

He is looking into a Toshiba Satellite right now, and apparently he found a great deal on Bizrate. Thanks for the suggestions. 😀

It’s got a 100GB harddrive, 512MB RAM (on one stick with another empty slot, so you can just buy one stick to upgrade in the future), 15.4″ widescreen, and I can get up to around 4 hours on the battery. However, it’s only got a 1.6GHz Pentium M. It’s fine for pretty much everything I do, but it’s less than what your dad is looking for.
