I’m using AIM5.1 and I saved my password. I know it’s in the registry, and I can get it back by using the AOL page for lost passwords – but here’s the problem. I use one password for everything! 🙁 I can’t check my email untill I know the password, so… What can I do? I have the encrypted version, and I suppose I could register a few names and try and decrypt it, but if there was an easier way, that would be great… Thanks in advance!

First off, it’s VERY unwise to use the same password for everything.I’ve never used this – but it’s worth a shot. I’m not responsible for anything that happens to your files or your System.
Retrieve AIM Password.I changed that script, still won’t run on WinXP. That encryption formula may not work at all though.
I am not sure if this will work at all but here is an idea I have never tried. First uninstall AIM and reinstall it with a much older version such as 4.7 or so. If the names and passwords can still show up in the list like they do in an upgrade you may be in business. Then go online to download one of those password retrievers for AIM online and see if it can get to it. I dunno but this is just a thought and I have never tried it. I am trying it now and I gotta tell ya it don’t work. AIM 4.3 just ask for the password again since it does not reconize the new encryption.
Find a program called ‘Mobb AIM’ once found open and click on encrypted aim passwords – put your screen name and encrypted password in – enjoy any questions email me.

I don’t think that’ll work. The passwords are stored in a different form than they were in other versions of AIM. You may just find that you are unable to ever get your password back if you do this. However TC_Lawabider if you do decide to do this – backup your password in the registry first – that way, if you lose it, you still have the crypted version.
To backup your AIM password:
Start –> Run –> “regedit” ( Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareAmerica OnlineAOL Instant Messenger (TM)CurrentversionYOUR_AIM_USERNAME_HERELoginPassword1
Double-click on it and you will see something like: ggfdh98gf56h5986gf3fgkrsty5ewgjBhgU+X2kc= Save that to a text file somewhere, just in case you lose the AIM login registry entry.Couldn’t you just do “Forgot password” for your email if it supports it? Or do “Forgot password” for aim?
