I love Yahoo but have been having so many problems with messenger and Yahoo itself is no help at all.
First of all, I have Windows XP (but had the same problems with ME)
Here’s what’s happening and I hope someone here can help figure out what’s wrong …
1. It never shows me as playing pool when I am so my friends dont know and can’t join me from their messenger box (yes, it’s checked for them to be able to see and join me)
2. I’m not receiving all of my alerts .. mail or people coming on and offline (yes, it’s checked for me to receive the alerts)
3. Not all of my friends show up on my messenger box when online .. sometimes as many as 5 will pop up on there when I click ‘refresh’ and when I do click ‘refresh’, I’ll also find out I have mail I didn’t know about …
This is a shortened list, but the most annoying to me. Yahoo suggested I uninstall then reinstall and I’ve done that. Didn’t help. Hopefully someone here has some ideas about what’s wrong cuz I sure don’t know.provide more details.

Connection type, cable? dial-up?
length of time problem experienced.
What were the circumstances when this problem didnt exist.
Is the computer private or corporate owned.
what firewalls are installed and a list of running background tasks.The answers given here are only ever as good as the details provided. some of us are smart but none of us are mind readers.

Yahoo version 5.5 – only add ons are skins/themes (if those are what you mean by add ons)
Experiencing the problems for the last week or so .. more so lately .. have only had this computer with XP since Christmas so it’s new to me .. I don’t know about firewalls (I didn’t install any) will have to look that one up .. The only programs that are consistently running while the computer is on is Norton anti-virus and CallWave Internet Answering MachineTried uninstalling messenger, etc. but the explorer bar wouldn’t remove when I clicked on the button to remove it. So, someone suggested I try installing Yahoo over what I have and it didn’t help any.
I am having problems also. I have my friend list set to nicknames. When I log in I have to go to the yahoo id’s and add nickname everytime for them nick to display. Also I have my BUZZ set up for the doorbell sound, when I do get buzzed it makes the ka-plunk sound (something dropping in a bucket of water). I have XP and messenger has worked correctly before. I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times. Only thing different I have done was to download YStyle, Ytunnel and obscene emotions. After I D/L’ed them thats when the problem occured. I have uninstalled them all but still have the same problem.
