I just loaded the forum index when BAM right in the online users I see the nick “pussy_eating_male4u”. I was wondering if nicks like this should be automatically changed or something considering we are trying to run a “family-friendly” site, or something like it. This also made me wonder, is there any way (unless you want to allow these type of nicks) that when new members are creating a name for BBB, a filter can be added to block nicks with say..cuss words or anything dirty? Such as that nick I mentioned above. What do you all think about this?
P.S. Frankly it doesn’t offend me that much, but I do like seeing BBB keeping a clean reputation.
Yeah, Miami’s right… That nick is kind of, offensive. There should be a filter, or something. BigBlueBall is a clean community, if that guy wants to use a nick like that, he should go to a porn chat site or something, that is not appropriate here.
That’s a bit over the edge IMHO….sounds like he’s a cheesy Yahoo! bot.
EDIT: Just looked for him…and he’s gone. Apparently he never existed or Jeff has chased him away. 🙂
EDIT, EDIT: Yet….when I looked in those that visited he’s there. He was not listed when i did a member search for “Pu**y” with the s’s there was another named that…but not him. it’s odd.I have the ability to setup non-allowable usernames, but I cannot block every possible permutation. In the case mentioned, if I blocked the word “pussy” it would also prevent user names such as “pussycat”.
I do have a “bad word” filter that blocks the more extreme words, but people will always find a way around it if they’re determined.
For now, if you run across a username that is overtly lewd, let me know and I’ll edit it.
Out of curiousity, did someone delete that user or edit their username?

These names sound bot-ish….like the crap you see in yahoo! chat rooms…those things ruined chat….I’m wondering…is there one of those varification things we can do like Yahoo! does where you have to type what you see? Or is that going over too far (in expense as well as bother)?

Yes, I changed the first users name. The reason you couldn’t find him in the member directory or member search was because he hadn’t validated his account yet.
As for the second name… is it so wrong to be horny? 😀 I don’t want to go overboard policing names. Do you think it crosses that imaginary line?
I think the one Ant put this post up for was well out of order but, yep there is a fine line between being just too serious about it.
Basically if it’s a name that is, just in your face (pardon the pun!!) but if it’s on the border line, then well , let it ride (blow it another pun!!!) haha but you know what I mean :0)
Well…with all the publicity we’re getting, I’m not surprised at the new ‘questionable’ names…
More or less I have to laugh at the horny virgin names…jsut because…well…they’re funny. *shrug* But honestly…gotta remember we have 13+ year olds here. So, you have to just keep that in mind. I may not have led a normal childhood by any means, but I did know what “horny” and “virgin” was, and it made me damn uncomfortable. At least until I was 16 *wink* heh.
heh, when I posted the veryhornyvirgin name, I was more just curious about where exactly that ‘imaginary line’ is. obviously we dont want to go policing names left and right, but i’m looking to see where we’re willing to draw the line. shall we say something to the effect of blatant sexual references like the first name? or blatant obscenities (which i imagine are already blocked/filtered to a degree)…
This whole discussion got me thinking about a name a saw oh so long ago “Bigdickblack” and I brought it up to Jeff (Don’t believe me? here’s the link to all names dick ) Edit: you’ll need to search for it yourself as it only comes up to the main member page. Jeff said something that made sense…he could just be a guy who is black, likes black and he is big and named dick. Suuuuuuuuure…but the possibility IS still there. I think when one’s user name is something that’s not normally seen on television (and I don’t mean skin-a-max or the playboy channel) it’s pretty safe to say that those kind of names should be taken out and/or changed.
I don’t remember which name it was, but there was another time Jeff changed an objectionable name to something darn funny…just by changing one letter. 😀 It’s all in fun and you know our cat loving friend will not be the last to try. 😀Didn’t know if a name like this should be acceptable, mean_lil_b*tch. Yeah it’s the actual “Bad Word” i just choose not to cuss outloud or type it.
