Mercora is a new P2P application that allows users to share songs without actually downloading them. The files on your computer are streamed over the net allowing users to listen.
Started by a former McAfee CEO, Mercora has acquired licenses to allow the legal use of this technology. Likewise, it also shares pictures and videos will be shared soon.
One of the coolest features is the integrated instant messenger. It integrates the media streaming into chat which has extreme potential. Hopefully Mercora can survive against the RIAA and the DMCA.

June 7, 2004 at 11:24 pm #78357DaJMan1800MemberSounds pretty cool, but how will it do with Dial Up?
June 7, 2004 at 11:38 pm #78355Someguy03MemberAnyone know how old this is?
And does anyone here want to test this? I want to see if people can connect to me.
June 8, 2004 at 6:45 am #78350Jeff HesterKeymasterI’ve set it up if you’re interested in testing. Add “BigBlueBall” to your contact list.

Lol I hope you dont mind Shizna, but I took your post, added to it, and submitted it as a news article to the very populer P2P site Zeropaid.com, and it was accepted, and has been posted on the site.
Just go through the “Top File Sharing News” on the frontpage and you will find it: http://www.zeropaid.com/

June 13, 2004 at 8:42 pm #78359LexxcptnMemberI would appreciate it if someone would allow me access, so I could see how this works. It appears to me that you have to know what songs and what friends have what songs. Is there not a way to search across the p2p network?
June 22, 2004 at 2:45 am #78364kyuubiMemberoh yea.. I remeber this one… this is the one developed by the head of McAfee…..sounds intersting…
June 22, 2004 at 7:43 pm #78351HotmopMemberThis is a pretty cool way to connect to others that have similar or varied musical tastes. On my way to wiring up a personal global network of musically inclined friends. If you want to explore Mercora, please feel free to add “epiclectic” to your friends list. The easiest way to find someone is to select the “Listen to P2P Radio” option and then search for the name of a friend, artist or genre. Pretty painless.
June 23, 2004 at 6:08 pm #78361stephesmybabyMemberYeah, I kinda liked Mercora, but I just wish there was a way to burn the songs to CD’s and stuff, otherwise its nice 🙂

That would defeat its purpose, for when you make a copy of the song it would no longer be legal.
November 10, 2004 at 1:36 am #78348Jeff HesterKeymasterI know this old, but now that I got DSL I can use this! It ROCKS but is this very well known? The results I get from searching are about 7 the most I’ve seen. What’s up with that?
November 10, 2004 at 1:46 am #78353OreoMemberI noticed in another thread that you updated to XP service pack 2…one of the “updates” they made meant that you cannot download from very many sources at one time…I think the limit is seven…. 🙁
