Hi All,
In older AIM Version’s (like 5.9) if I left my computer & forgot to put up an away message, there was a default message that would work if I was idle for a period of time. I’m using AIM Beta Version 6.8.1.5 now, is there a way to have that, or is that gone?
Thanks for any help!

Hi bAn_DiT,
Thank you for the response BUT I can not find that in Version 6.8.1.5, where I have “Idle Message”, can you tell me where exactly it is? I looked thru all the Settings options & did not see it?? Am I missing something?
Thanks Much,

How does the “I’m Away Message” feature work?
If you need to step away from your computer but do not want to sign off, you can let AOL Instant Messenger use the Away message and the Idle message to let other users know you are temporarily not available. Or, if you have set up IM Forwarding, you can choose to have your IMs sent to your mobile device when you are away from your computer. The Away message feature lets the service automatically respond to buddies who send you messages while you are away from your desk. You can choose a default message, such as “I’m away from my computer right now,” or you can create new messages.
You can also choose to have your Instant Messages sent to a personal mobile device if you have IM Forwarding enabled.
When you are signed on to the service but have not used it in 10 minutes or more, the service changes your status to Idle and turns on your Idle message because of inactivity. The service displays your Idle message when anyone requests information about you and automatically replies with the message to anyone who sends you a message while you are in an Idle state.

Hi bAn_DiT,
OK thanks for your help, I appreciate it. Just where is this “idle message” and can I make a default idle message. I know about away messages, just not idle messages, where I can see the default or change the default. Is it possible that my Default away message is my idle message after 10 minutes of nonuse?
Thanks for any further explanation,
Steve

Hi
I’ve tested this by going to the Newest AIM Beta 6.8.2.19 today with friends. Here is what I did.
1. I went to AIM > EDIT > SETTINGS > PRIVACY and checked Allow others to see I am idle.
2. I went to my away messages & set up an away message (and set it as my default away message), something like I forgot to put up an away message.
3. I allowed the computer to go idle as *IF* I forgot to put up an away message, when people looked, my screen name only showed idle, NO default away message, AGAIN this is different from like AOL 5.9
I’ve looked for a Plugin, can’t find any, does anyone have an idea or is the “Idle Message” dead in the AIM 6.8?
Thanks,

Hey bAn_DiT,
Yes two people tried it, one using AIM 5.9 & one using AIM 6.8 (I doubted that made a difference what AIM they were using but wanted to make sure) & neither of them got an auto response from me when I was in an idle state.
Just seems like that feature has been removed for some reason by the AIM developers???
Thanks again for your responses, I appreciate your help,
Steve
