 Ok here’s the deal,i was chatting last night to a friend on Y! messenger and at one point in our conversation i wrote him like a 20 words message which he said he didnt get.i sent him the same message again and he got it.Today as i was having a “pleasant” conversation with my ex it happened again,i wrote a message of about 20 words and he didnt get it.sent it again and nothing.he got everything else but that.i tried over and over and he was missing the same message.i have no idea why it happens,it never happened before but its like all of a sudden these messages get lost on the way…
So its a mystery to me and i was wondering if it ever happened to you guys.
Thanks 🙂March 25, 2006 at 12:19 am #140675Eagle_KiwiMemberInteresting, Strigoi – and very unsettling if nothing else 🙁
It’s tough once your confidence in “the system” is suddenly questioned like this.I chat a lot on YM, and HAVE had similar things occur, but only very rarely, like once a YEAR!? (that I’ve been aware of anyway).
The last time was a few days ago with my girlfriend – and we both afterward compared our message archives – indeed the particular message showed clearly in MY archive (as “sent”), but simply didn’t appear (as “received”) in hers.
I’ve no idea why this should happen, or any way to avoid it . . . so I figure just live with it, and ACCEPT that just occasionally an IM will not go. (Though it sure does help confirm/prove such things later if everyone has Archiving activated).

It starts out with lag then it turns into a lost packet issues
I have found that YCHT protocol isn’t experiencing these issues.
I find this somewhat ironic because all the Yahoo messenger bots are using YCHT.
Perhaps this flakeyness can be contributed to the cross platform merger with the MSN network
But, more than likely its attributed to the total non maintenance of Yahoo chat since the collapse of the User Rooms, and the resulting revenue.
I have more information on this on my site.

This includes…
Room list disappears, or is only partly there
Lose voice or laggs voice
Type disappears in room, or lags so bad no one see’s it for 5 mins
Profiles are either non existant, or sparatic in coming up
Almost impossible to edit a profile
Offlines or PM’s are not being sent or received
Out of ten lines of text only half of those get thru and are received. The list I’m afraid goes on and on, and until Yahoo finishes messing around with it, there are somethings we just have to be patient and live with.
Another guess is that there are people out there who think that flooding the chat server, or the voice server is fun. If they do this to enough servers, then yahoo can’t run effectively because it’s too busy handling reqeusts from the flooders.

April 7, 2006 at 2:24 am #140673DermotParticipantBoth Yahoo! and MSN are readying their Servers to handle MSNP and YMSG
This been you will see a lot of “odd” happenings in the next few months till it is all ironed out.
If you send a message to the Yahoo! server and it thinks your friend is not there as they can …it will cache it till it thinks they login next (offline message)
So when they login the server dumps your messsage on your friend as the offline message.
These kind of “hiccups” will definately happen just the same as “offline messages” have been added to Windows Live Messenger and are happening there also.
I would say be patient as you can even tho most people wont but i’m sure yahoo! will fix the issues within time.
April 7, 2006 at 2:41 am #140678williamleeMemberI had this happen a few times and someone told me (cant remember who for the life of me) but anywho he said to go into messenger perferences and into chat and choose none on the word filter, and have those i chat with on IM to do the same. What was told to me was that sometimes if the words we choose could be taken as subjectable the message may not be sent. I thought it was hogwash but did it anyway and as of yet to have another message disappear in cyberspace. could be something to try.
April 7, 2006 at 2:52 am #140674DermotParticipantThe filter in yahoo messenger you speak of just replaces said characters “incoming” only to *** not outgoing.
