Hello Everyone: Please excuse the size of words, my eyes site is not that good!
I am using xp home edition.
I just switched from aol dial up to verizon DSL, Now since then I have used the Yahoo messenger pc to pc with great success!
But since last night my “call Tab” has been greyed out and I cannot make a pc to pc call to my friend! This is what it states>>>
You cannot place a call because Messenger is not currently connected to the voice service. This is either because you are behind a restrictive firewall or because we are fixing a problem with the voice service.<<<
I know its not the firewall, anyone else have this problem, please let me know what can be done and Thank You, TomSeptember 13, 2006 at 12:51 pm #152191DermotParticipantDoes your DSL router have a firewall enabled?
You may need to forward or trigger the ports needed for calling
Call your ISP and notify them of your inability to use the VoIP on Y! Messenger
Ask them do you have Router and if allowance of Y! messenger is one of its preset rules to allow.
An excellent site on port forwarding can be found Here!
Yahoo! Messenger with Voice will work if any one of these TCP ports are open:
* 5061
* 443
* 80At least ONE of these ports must be open in order to make PC-to-PC or PC-to-phone (Phone Out) calls, or to receive calls (Phone In).
If your connection to the web is through an http proxy, then you won’t be able to make or receive calls with your PC.
Don’t know if you’re using a proxy? You can check by following these steps:
* Go to the Messenger menu in the upper left corner of your Messenger window, and select Preferences.
* From the Category list at left, choose Connection.
* Which button is selected? This will tell you your proxy status. The text below the buttons explains which button is most appropriate for your user environment. If you are behind a corporate firewall or router, please contact your ISP for assistance getting around this issue. -
