Patchou has released Messenger Plus! 2.10, the first official production version of his popular add-on for MSN Messenger. Whats new? Read on for a few highlights.
Multi-language support is complete, with 27 languages currently supported and more to come. This fixes issues with right-to-left reading languages such as Hebrew, and also provides full support for the unique fonts used by different langauges
Sound commands were an Easter egg in the last version, but they were so popular that Patchou added more sounds and made it a part of the program. There are now ten sounds that you can use in your instant messages, though only other Messenger Plus! users will hear them. And now if youre in either away or boss mode, your sounds can all be automatically silenced. This includes the custom login/logoff sounds youve defined for your contacts.
Another handy little feature is the ability to add your own files to the Share button in your instant message windows. If you have a few files (photos, music or programs) that youre often sending to friends, adding them to the Share button makes it much easier to send them. You can add up to ten of your own files.
A special tag has been added to display the song youre currently playing with WinAmp. Enter (!WAT) in your message and it sends the current song title. Its supposed to work with both WinAmp 2.x and 3.x, but Ive only tested with 3.x (worked like a charm).
And for those of you who like to constantly change your display name (you know who you are!), now theres a command that lets you do it right from an instant message window. Just type /nick, followed by the display name you want and it updates your display name.
In addition to the new release, Patchou has a completely redesigned web site that is much more useful, and looks fantastic. Be sure to check out the extensive tutorials section, which features screen shots and step-by-step instructions that will help you make the most of this full-featured add-on.
There are a lot of other new features and a bunch of bug fixes. For all the details, check out their web site.
