Right now were in the process of doing some marketing for our website. I am in the middle of generating some meta keywords for the website (http://www.appliancecenterdirect.com). I was just wondering what is too many keywords? If I put over a few thousand keywords onto the website…will that slow down the site in anyway? We were going to put over 12 thousand+ keywords but I was afraid that was going to slow it down.
What are some marketing tools that you guys/girls have tried? We really do need to get this site out there in the search engines.

-BronxyMeta keywords help, but not THAT much. BigBlueBall has almost 40,000 members, and yet it has under 20 meta keywords.
That’s not really the trick anymore, the trick is to get your name out there. You have a good domain name, maybe you should think about purchasing advrtising slots from companies like Google or another site. The more your name and link are exposed, the more likely you will get business.
If you want your site to get ranked, you need to have great content. If you don’t have much text content, then the search engines will ignore your site. Meta Keywords are virtually ignored by the top search engines due to misuse. Give your products good descriptions and it’ll help way more than any meta tag ever will.
It matters what its soul is man! Not some meta stuff. Like they both have said, yeah it will help, but you need great content. I don’t see it as slowing it really in anyway TOO much, unless that many words dramaticly increased the file size.
Ryan, figure 1 letter is 1 byte. So if he has 20,000 words at 10 characters avg. per word, that’s about 215kb, including commas. Websites shouldn’t be more than a few megabytes total, so if that’s taking a toll on the size of the overall page and every little bit counts, I’d say trim it down to 20.
I think sites like Google ignore most of those anyway, like shifter said, and I’m sure search engines stop reading keywords after a certain point. So, basically, it’s not a good idea to have a lot of keywords, especially with all the images you have on your site. Keep it at or less than about 20.
