Have you read the news? Microsoft is apparently spamming IM users who are running older, non-SSL messenger clients, strongly suggesting that they upgrade to MSN Messenger 6.
Have you gotten an email like this?
August 19, 2003 at 4:40 pm #56839Mr.Curlynose1MemberYou mean they’re spamming them saying that they should upgrade? Like if they use Trillian, MSN 4, or Miranda or something, they SPAM you to get you to change? That is LOW!
(EDIT) And I have gotten 2 of those messages. I had a friend who uses Trillian who said he got 10!)
August 19, 2003 at 6:09 pm #56841AnonymousParticipantI have recieved about 15 emails, 15-30 minutes apart from each other just like the example.

August 19, 2003 at 7:20 pm #56838CharlesMemberI don’t find this a surprise coming from microsoft. This is just like them. They say they are in the fight against spam, yet they are becoming the widest distributors. Hypocrites.
August 19, 2003 at 7:37 pm #56835Jeff HesterKeymasterTechnically there’s probably something in their TOS that gives them permission to email you regarding your service (since you’re using their software, or at least their IM network). But nobody wants 15 emails all saying the same thing! Someone’s gonna open up a can o’ whoop-ass on the Microsoft campus.
August 19, 2003 at 9:48 pm #56837CharlesMemberIt is a step foward in their campaign to take over the internet. The .net has taken over so many products and those are their real intentions. They want the next windows to force you to use their internet services, read the EULA. It is the most BS I have ever seen. They have their .net websites, .net Visual Studio, soon you will have to log into .net to access the internet. Read the windows EULA….I don’t trust them one bit. I set my firewall to block their IP Range, so they can’t track me or crap like that.
August 19, 2003 at 11:16 pm #56842JabarooMemberI don’t think it’s MS who’s actually doing it themselves.
Cause if you look at the addy iof the sender… And also why would they spam you? When I recieve their newsletter from one of my other hotmail addy’s they don’t spam me with it. I was discussing this in another forum before, and were lead to believe it’s not MS who’s doing it, but sme **** heads
August 20, 2003 at 1:21 am #56840EvanMemberhmm i got one from them but i probly be expectiong more.. think i should change my email and make em send it to there or something?
August 20, 2003 at 9:33 am #56843duphusParticipantI used MSN Messenger 3.6 for a day so I could get this email…. I never got it.. 🙁
Sounds like I would be better off without it 😉August 21, 2003 at 12:27 am #56836FaizanMemberI use MSNm6, and I received the email today. And my mom doesn’t use IM and she even got the email, so I don’t think its just for people who use older versions, they are just “announcing” their new product.
