Every time I open Microsoft Word I get a Visual Basic error that says, “The macros in this project are disabled. Please refer to the online help or documentation of the host application to determine how to enable macros.” This only started happening a couple of weeks ago and it is driving me nuts. Does anyone know what I can do to stop this error coming up everytime I open a Word document? I’m running Windows XP.
EDIT: Moved from Music Room
You could try reinstalling Microsoft Word.
It’s a security thing.
Word (and other Office applications) has a macro language that can automate certain tasks. It’s also a great way for hackers to spread viruses — IF they can get you to open their infected .DOC or .DOT file.
Your default template likely includes macros. If you are running an up-to-date virus scanner and are confident that the template is clean, you can change the security settings in Word to permit the macros to run. In Word 2003, you go to Tools > Options > Security > Macro Security. Mine is set to “Medium” security, which means I’m prompted each time to choose whether or not to run macros. If I’m opning a document from someone I don’t know well, I disable the macros when prompted.
