Admit it, the MMO market is at a lull right now. Boxes maybe still be coming off the shelves, subscriptions may still be renewing, but the EQII fad has come to a shameful halt, Guild Wars ended up being too linear and languid to ever really peak from the start, and Battlefield 2? Seriously… developers of the world, enough with the wars games.
Anyone steering clear of the above mentioned are reverting back to WoW, overpopulating the servers (such as the ongoing PA vs. PVP battle on Dark Iron), transforming the game into a really pretty and colorful IM program, and being just really big dicks in general.
…So until some act of God bestows us with a new bigger, better, and shinier way to avoid having social lives, we’re all stuck power-leveling our alts, only to cap… and do it all over again.
My question to you is, assuming the MMO market is at a lull because of just how hard all of the little programmers are tinkering away in dark and secretive workshops to bring you something in time for winter, what game are you waiting for?
Personally, Pirates of the Burning Sea has been really grabbing my attention lately …namely becuase of my unhealthy pirate obsession, but anything worthy enough of an E3 award is probably worthy of a glance of mine as well.
…That’s to say I’m not so much 100% for an online console (and the prices respectively, which is how PotBS is going to be delivered), but hey, it works. I’m hoping to jump onto the beta bandwagon and see where it goes from there.
September 26, 2005 at 2:07 am #129951colinMemberI bought Guild Wars a few months ago, and got obsessed with it. I played 5 hours a day, on average. However, one day I bought Counter-Strike, and I have been playing that ever since. In fact, I am so over Guild Wars that I gave it to my brother, who is in college. I know Counter-Strike is an old game, but it is definitely still one of the greats.
BTW, do NOT hack on Counter-Strike, ever. I hacked about 5 times max, mainly out of curiousity. Well, about a week later, I was informed that I was banned from VAC-secured servers, so now I have to play on non-secured servers until I buy a new copy.

That pirate thing is ratheraaaaaaaaaaaaarrgh interesting.. eeh hemm.. Yes, though we did buy the expansion doo dad thingy for EQII which now has PvP action…though I am not really into that type of thing and my husband hogs the PC so often that I may as well just kill off my little Wood Elf Shaman…she’s so close to level 20 I can taste it! Oh, yes…well….the thing that keeps me going with these things is that I don’t spend oodles of time playing them. Same with Guild Wars…the thing with that game that gets me irked is that you cannot go into LOTS of different parts of the terrain…it’s rather annoying IMHO.
I would love to see some MMO based on something new…which is why the pirate thing was pretty neat sounding to me…I just hope they don’t come out with something like the SIMS MMO…*SHUDDER* who knows what kind of odd things might come out of that!? Until then…I am exploring the ends of our PS2….(I once played a South Park game on PS2….at the time I thought it was pretty funny…wouldn’t THAT be an interesting MMO….or not. 😀 ) -
